Located just 80km away from Salvador, you can get there by the beautiful and well paved Estrada do Coco. PROJETO TAMAR Until the end of the 70's nothing to preserve sea turtles had been done. Some thirty years later, we are proud to say that Praia do Forte is the host of one of the most important turtle preservation projects in world. PROJETO TAMAR has helped preserve and return to the waters of the Atlantic Ocean more than 22 million sea turtles since 1990. Supported by PETROBRS and helped by conscious tourists PROJETO TAMAR has saved hundreds of millions of sea turtles. This is the ideal tour for those who want to relax. Just leave the everyday stress and anxiety behind and enjoy 8 hours of serenity, traveling around two beautiful islands. DOS FRADES ISLAND, is one of the biggest islands in All Saints Bay. Home of an exuberant forest, Ilha dos Frades holds thousands of trees, including pau brasil. Its shape resemble a fifteen-point star that shelters amazingly beautiful beaches on each end. It is also considered an Ecological Reservation in 1982. In the Nossa Senhora there is a concentration of beach stands that serve beer, finger-food, and steaming lobster. There are also many other beaches such as Paramana, Loreta, Virao, Tobar and Praia da Costa. The tour also pauses at a beach on the Ilha de Itaparica a haven for artists and the well-to-do who want the luxury of living on an island near the city. Here is a map of. ITAPARICA ISLAND is the longest islands in the All Saints Bay. The island has extraordinary natural resources and extreme beauty. The island has hypothermal characteristics. It became a Hydro mineral Spring in 1937. On the tip of the island that is turned to the ocean, one can see a chain of reefs along an extension of 15 km that forms natural pools that are perfect for bathing. The island was emancipated from Salvador on July 30th, 1962 and became the manager of two other cities: Mapa da Mina Itaparica and Vera Cruz. Going on a special one day tour lasts eights hours - starting at 09:00 a.m and ending at 05:00 p.m - on a schooner guided by guides that speak your language. The National Park of the Chapada Diamantina is one of the most fascinating natural parks of Brazil. The mountain scenery contains an extraordinary variety of ecosystems, like Cerrado, Mata Atlantica, and Stone fields, Caatinga. The bromeliads and orchids find a perfect environment, adapting themselves to the differences in climate, altitude. The mountain reach a height of 5,660 feet and they offer shelter to the Jaguatiricas (local breed of feline) pumas, mocs (local rodents), deer's, teis (local reptile) and seriemas (local little ostrich). The massive quartz pieces, have undergone and resisted the erosion that began in the Pre-Cambrian period, forming towers of minerals known as TEPUY by the local Indians of the Maracas and Cariris tribes, which dominated the region before the arrival of the first settlers or bandeirantes, around the year 1750. The most astonishing tepuis reach a height of 4,830 ffet and they run across the municipalities of Palmeiras, Lenois e Mucug. The Tabor hill, Calumbi (Also known as Morro do Camelo, or Camel Back) the Pai Inacio and the Morro Branco do Paty, challenge time and feed the many local legends. The cities that border the National park are filled with colonial buildings representing the architecture of the time, a vivid memory of the richness of the time of the diamonds, which made Brazil the first world producer of the mineral during the beginnings of the XX century. The trails opened by the garimpeiros (searchers of precious minerals) are opened today for the enjoyment of hikers and trekkers from around the world. It is still possible to encounter old garimpeiros in the area, who experienced and lived the diamond rush that made the area famous. The main rivers of the area begin in the hidden rocks of the Chapada. The Paraguau and the de Contas rivers cave deep canyons in the hills and planes, creating a scenery of divine beauty in the Fumaa Waterfall (1,400 feet long, the highest fall in the country), the caves of Iraguara and the Enchanted Cave or Poo Encantado. The National Park of Chapada Diamantina was established in 1985 and it is currently undergoing the implementation process, administered by the Ibama (Environmental Institute of Brazil -Instituto Brasileriro de Meio Ambiente), headquartered in Palmeiras. For security and environmental protection, the local guide associations in the area should be contacted to pursuit hikes in the park. Tourist agencies, pousadas, hostels and alternative community hosting promote trips by bike, off-road, canoe and by foot, as well as by mule and horseback. In addition, other interesting attractions include new age, spiritual discovery and personal growth. CAVES of the Spelogical Park of the Iraquara, close to the town of Palmeiras, is one of the most important subterranean nets of Brazil. The most visited caves are Lapa Doce, Torrinha, Buraco do Co and Pratinha (usually overflowed with tourist). The cave of Torrinha was discovered several years ago by an association of French potholders or speleologists from Meandres. Three trails are offered to the visitors of the area, ranging from a simple overview to a complete discovery (3hours). These caverns offer a geological curiosity of displaying gypsite needles of 60 centimeters in range, aragonite flowers of unimaginable size and other wonders, which local guides know well how and are happy to share with those interested in the subject matter.
