S ince its beginnings in the mid-1800's, the Island House has remained a comfortable and pleasant retreat. This continues to be true of our newly-built Island House B and B, located in a quiet setting nearby. Nestled on a hill above the village, with the sound of the wind in the surrounding spruce and pines, it provides a place of serenity for those who visit. We liked Charlie Ann. It was fun to talk with them about the community. The music breakfast were terrific. You don't find a cleaner, more charming set up than these new guest rooms. AND BIG too. We learned about you from the Internet. It was a good experience..; Carol and J.S., Newark, Delaware (July 2005)

The charming loft efficiency apartment is especially popular with honeymoon couples. Attached to the main house over the double garage, it has its own separate entrance. It looks out over the tall spruce and pine woods surrounding the Island House, and its sunny stepout balcony offers a glimpse of Beech Mountain. The skylight over the livingroom/diningroom opens to fresh island breezes. There is a front corner bedroom with a queen bed and a smaller single bedroom, to comfortably accommodate up to three persons. There is a full bath with tub and shower, an efficiency kitchen, a dining/living area with easy chairs for relaxation and reading, and cable TV. Linens and cooking utensils are provided. A discount of 10% is given if the apartment is rented by the week. The daily rates are: two to three persons - $150.00

In the Fall of 2004, we built a new Island House B and B, after having completed 20 years of hosting guests in the original Island House. Our new home is built with our many guests in mind. The 2 guest rooms, efficiency apartment and common room are all spacious and bright. Furnishings from Ann's childhood years in Southeast Asia blend comfortably with the Maine simplicity of the house. The guest rooms are on the main floor, and the apartment is over the double garage. Our guests speak appreciatively of the warm hospitality and homeiness they feel at the Island House, as well as the tasty and varied breakfasts served by Ann and Charlie, who both enjoy cooking. A cozy woodstove on cool evenings, a piano to play, books for browsing, and a picnic table in the woods all contribute to a restful and quiet place where guests choose to return year after year.

There is a comfortable common room for relaxation or morning breakfast, with a peaceful view of the surrounding woods. The Birch Room is a sunny corner room with a bay window, private bath and queen bed. The Maple Room is an attractive room with a bay window, private bath, and twin beds or converted king bed.

We serve a full delicious breakfast with such Island House favorites as assorted warm muffins, Swiss eggs and homemade Danish. We also try to accommodate the needs of those with a less hearty appetite or with special dietary requirements. These are all prepared by Ann and Charlie, who both enjoy cooking! Breakfast is served in a pleasant, sunny, flower-filled dining room. Dining on our sunny back deck is also an available option, weather permitting.

Ann and Charlie Bradford. Ann and Charlie know the island well and take pleasure in helping their guests plan their outings. They both enjoy walking and hiking. Ann enjoys working in her flower garden and playing the piano and cello. Charlie, who is a true Mainer, has lived around or been on the water all of his life. He spent many years as a fisherman and worked at the H.R. Hinckley Company for 15 years hauling and launching boats before retiring in December of 2005.
