Fodors 2003 Jordan Simon. The Meguid Family blends contemporary accommodations with typical Nevisian warmth. Deluxe rooms and suites have large balconies, handsome white and natural wicker furnishings; apricot, mint, and white fabrics, and colorful island prints. Suites have full kitchens and sofa beds, making them fine value for families. The beach club serves sumptuous pizzas and grilled items. The hotel's verdant site was once a lime plantation; the wild trees' perfume wafts through the air. Invigorating hikes on-site include the 18th century ruins of the Thomas Cottle Church. The hotel's airy dining room opens onto the terrace and pool with a splendid view of St. Kitts. The elegant yet light menu deftly blends local ingredients with a cornucopia of cuisines, from Mexican to Thai. Stellar starters are calamari tempura with red peppers and saffron ailoli, or Caribbean conch cakes with mild basil chili-mayonnaise; excellent entrees include pan-seared salmon with garlic lime butter sauce and superb flambe specials. the service is attentive, the dining room sublime with lovely Fauvist-hued artworks. Frommers 2003. This family-owned and run resort dating from 1989 is on the slopes of Mount Nevis, a 5-minute drive southwest of Newcastle Airport. It's known for the quality of its accommodations, for its panoramic views and for serving some of the best food on Nevis. Near the historic fishing village of Newcastle, it offers standard rooms and junior suites, the latter with fully equipped kitchens and space enough to accommodate at least four guests comfortably, making it an ideal family choice. The rooms have such amenities as VCRs and ceiling fans, and are furnished in a tropical motif with wicker and colorful island prints. the hotel restaurant is a discovery, serving some of the finest cuisine on Nevis with menus that change every hight. The chef has done a wonderful job of embracing the local tastes with a big-city gourmet twist. Just steps above the pool, the restaurant offers vistas of palm groves and the Caribbean Sea from its bar and dining terrace. You never know what's likely to be featured: A very smooth and spicy conch chowder might get you going, or an equally delectable coconut-fried lobster with grilled pineapple and green-chile salsa, providing a sweet island flavor. The standard fillet of grouper, snapper, or mahi-mahi that occupies every menu in the Caribbean is also here, as the chef tends to prepare only what he can obtain locally. A lamb shank, another fairly standard menu item is delectable here, with an array of local vegetables. The lunch menu is more limited but still filled with some surprises tannia fritters (instead of conch) for example. Caribbean Connoisseur 1998 Michele Evans. Open since 1989, Mount Nevis Hotel attracts many repeart guests, both couples and families. What they're vying for are spaces in the 14 deluxe rooms and 14 suites in two-story whitewashed buildings with red peaked roofs all with spacious covered terraces or balconies. The buildings are set apart at decent intervals on lawns among palms, croutons, blossoming bougainvillea and allemandes, and ther plantings. It's not lush and jungly, but gardens are manicured and inviting... Mt. Nevis' owner, Dr. Adly Meguid, is an extremely hospitable on-the-scene director who obviously cares passionately about his hotel. His daughter, Noreen, acts as manager of sales from New York. They'll answer agreeably any question you might have about Mount Nevis, and once you're ensconced, Dr. Meguid or one of his front-desk staff will help arrange any activity, such as golf nearby at the Four Seasons' 18-hole course, excursions, and so on. Caribbean Handbook 1995 Karl Lunta. The hotel is on 16 acres of gardens, elevated 275 feet up the slopes of Mt. Nevis. The cooling breeze of this altitude is part of the attraction. There are 32 comfortable rooms in four buildings, with suites and kitchen facilities. The restaurant is one of the island's best, and the view almost certainly is. Berlitz Travellers Guide The Caribbean 1994 Jennifer Quale. No nonsense travelers focus on good food, outstanding views, and cable telly. The value-for-money factor along with a huge pool and genial owners, draws the same families from the US and Europe year after year.
