Some excerpts from the website of Running-R Guest Ranch that might be useful
Rounding everyone up for meals is no hassle at the Running-R Ranch. You will love our lodge building and it;s open
24 hours a day, every day of the year. The Round up
Room is spacious and be sure to check out our cool display of arrowheads and worked flint, all dated, all locally found in the Hill Country. We keep things simple and authentic here and you;ll feel like you stepped back in time. Again we have handmade cedar wood
furniture and a comfortable seating area around the brick fireplace. You will eat your
breakfast and
lunch here except for those times when we have outdoor BBQs or our fun Cowboy
Breakfast. You may feel like shooting
pool at the end of a long day so challenge each other or friends you;ll meet here (watch out for the wranglers, they;re
pool sharks!).
Coffee is brewed early at the Running R Ranch, and if you beat the staff to the pot, you may even get to enjoy a cup on the long front porch, sitting in a rocking chair quietly watching the day begin. Lemonade,
tea and water are also available and we have a
bar area where you can sit and enjoy them. We don;t have a liquor license but feel free to bring your own bottle. There is also an
ice machine available for your convenience. If you must have your morning news fix or evening reality
TV dose, we have
satellite TV in our lodge. Your family need never miss out on;Survivor; night! Borrow one of our classic western DVDs or a more recent comedy from the
office any time. Get back to basics with one of our fun board
games or take time out to play some cards. We can;t go too much further without mentioning our food. You;ll certainly be talking about it once you get a taste. We include
breakfast and
lunch with your package and they;re served
buffet-style and are as varied as the state of Texas. Our produce is freshly bought and our food is homemade and delicious. We don;t believe in packaged food so you just won;t find it at the Running R. You;ll find variety like you won;t believe. Naturally our
breakfasts include bacon, sausage, eggs, cereal and toast, but how about pancakes with blueberries, fresh fruit, hash browns,
breakfast tacos or a still-warm muffin?
Lunch gets even more tempting because at 1pm anything goes; from pot roast to meatloaf, pork ribs and
grilled fish. Desserts are even more delicious when sampled after a morning ride. We can;t guarantee that every meal is calorie-free, but when they;re this good, they should definitely be guilt-free! Go ahead and indulge, you;ll work it off on horseback or at the
pool. What about the evening meal? We do not serve an evening meal on the Running R Ranch so that you can take some time in the afternoon to explore and enjoy the nearby attractions. We find that our guests appreciate the fact that they don;t have to be back at a set time or lose out on a meal they;ve paid for in advance. However, we offer plenty of alternatives! If you still have space in your stomachs after
lunch then Bandera is just 10 miles away and boasts almost every kind of food you can imagine. Bandera has choices from home-style cooking to Mexican food, gourmet seafood and mouthwatering BBQ. Sit on a saddle at the
bar in the;O.S.T.;, overlook the river and watch the ducks at;Billy Gene;s; or feel like you;ve stepped into a Californian beach
cafe at;The Grotto;! You;ll be sure to meet the locals and experience the type of town you;ve only ever seen in the
movies where the hitching posts still hold horses. If you don;t feel like leaving the
poolside you can bring your own meat to
grill and use our shaded picnic area to enjoy eating outdoors. We have
refrigerators in every cabin and a microwave oven in the lodge you can use, even if just for popcorn! How about s;mores at the campfire ring? They;re a food group all on their own! For special events, family reunions and the like, you can make arrangements with us ahead of time for evening entertainment and a meal. Ask us, because if it;s possible we;ll do it.
