Small towns built schools that would last generations, and teachers put their hearts into preparing their students for life. We will never know how far a teacher's influence will travel. Here are a few of those special teachers and their classes. In 1934, Leona Hendricks taught this
room full of students who have familiar Baileys Harbor names, like Schultz, Kwaterski, Heald, Hickey, Boettcher, Root, Rehr, Viste, Tishler, Burlo, Moore, and Jorns. We have a great historical display at the schoolhouse, please stop in and enjoy the stories and images. Isn't this a great picture? Mr. Viste is the teacher and the principal. His name was Ernald, but we all called him Mr. Viste, until the day he died. The year is 1935, and some of the names are Weiss, Sorenson, Voeks, Whipple, DuQuaine, Anderson, Tischler, Hartwig, Mann, Toseland and McArdle. Let's go ahead to 1957 and the Baileys Harbor
Basketball team! There's Williams, Hubbard, Collins, Bergwin, Krowas, Zak, Reinhard, Goss, Brann, Peterson, Kwaterski, and Paul. Aren't they CUTE? Mr. Viste again...here he is also the coach...what a guy!!! The town had a Mr.Viste Day after he retired, to show the appreciation for all the hats he wore during the years he was at the Baileys Harbor School. I wish we could show you all the wonderful history of our building, but time and space just does not permit it! My husband Loren, his father, and our 2 children all attended school in this building, so our heart is here. We have a display of past students, teachers and school events. If you have an image or story to tell about the Old Baileys Harbor School, we would love to add it to our collection and share it with others.
