Each day we start your day off right with a three-course breakfast. You choose your breakfast time. Eat early to get ahead of the crowds at The Dane County Farmer's Market, or sleep in and enjoy a leisurely breakfast at 10:00. Breakfast is served in the dining room under the big brass candelabra with real burning candles or in the cozy library in view of the bird feeders on the back balcony. In the warmer seasons, for a slight additional charge, your breakfast can be packed in Japanese bento boxes and delivered to the gazebo in the garden for a very private and romantic start for your day. Breakfasts begin with your choice of chilled juices accompanied by steaming hot beverages. Guests choose from locally roasted Costa Rican coffee, a collection of fine teas, or creamy dark hot chocolate. The first course served is usually fresh seasonal fruit accompanied by homemade pastry or breads. The scones at the Speckled Hen Inn get rave reviews. Breakfast entrees feature fresh eggs from the Inn's own speckled hens, Wisconsin cheeses, and fresh veggies and herbs, often from the Inn's own gardens. Entrees are often accompanied by homemade sausage, pepper glazed bacon, or a vegetarian hash. We take pride in our ability to accommodate guests with food allergies and dietary restrictions. Pumpkin Pecan Muffins, Pears Baked with Apricot Orange and Honey, Cheese Souffle, Pepper Glazed Bacon, Cranberry Sorbet. Extra Bites and Goodies. Afternoon refreshments are available from around 3:00 to 6:00PM. Enjoy a complimentary glass of wine and sample Wisconsin's artisan cheeses. Complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and soft drinks are available 24 hours a day. The guest pantry is also stocked with pretzels, rice crackers, and Wisconsin microwave popcorn. Speckled Hen Guest Rooms and Suites, a Madison Wisconsin Bed and Breakfast Inn. The Speckled Hen Inn has four guest rooms. Rates include a full multi-course breakfast, complimentary snacks and beverages and wireless internet service. All rooms have a private bath stocked with natural bath amenities, 100% cotton bath linens, and luxurious robes. All bathrooms have a tub and a separate walk-in shower. There are jetted whirlpool tubs in three of the rooms. Most rooms have a king-sized bed with 100% natural cotton sheets, hypo-allergenic featherbeds, down comforters, and a comfortable assortment of pillows. Guest rooms have TV's with DVD players (most are also connected to the satellite system with music channels). The Inn has central heat and air-conditioning. Three rooms have fireplaces. From Chicago O'Hare International Airport (136 miles): take the Terminal Parking left exit onto Interstate 190 East toward Chicago go 2.4 miles and take exit #1C, Milwaukee/Rockford and get in the Rockford lane. This will put you onto Interstate 90 West. Continue on Interstate 90 for 130 miles. The toll booths stop at the Wisconsin state line. Take exit #135A toward Madison. This will put you on US Highway 151, East Washington Avenue. Go to the 4th stoplight and make a right turn onto Portage Road. There is an Office Depot store on that corner. Travel exactly 2 miles to the driveway to the Inn. The driveway is on the left side of Portage Road. If you cross over the expressway you have gone a little too far. From Milwaukee (77 miles): take Interstate Highway 94 West for 70 miles. Take the Eau Claire/ WI Dells exit onto Interstate 39 and go 1.8 miles to exit #135A toward Madison. This will put you onto US Highway 151 South, East Washington Avenue. Go to the 4th stoplight and make a right turn onto Portage Road. There is an Office Depot store on that corner. Travel exactly 2 miles to the driveway to the Inn. The driveway is on the left side of Portage Road. If you cross over the expressway you have gone a little too far. From Green Bay (151 miles): take US Highway 41 South 57 miles to exit #113. Take highway 26 South for about 22 miles. Obey the posted speed limits in Rosendale. Then take the ramp onto US Highway 151 South to Madison. You will cross under Interstate 90-94-39. Continue on US 151, East Washington Avenue to the 4th stoplight. Then make a right turn onto Portage Road. There is an Office Depot store on that corner. Travel exactly 2 miles to the driveway to the Inn. The driveway is on the left side of Portage Road. If you cross over the expressway you have gone a little too far. From Wausau (140 miles): take Interstate 39 South 130 miles to Madison exit #135A. This will put you on US Highway 151 South, East Washington Ave. Go to the 4th stoplight and make a right turn onto Portage Road. There is an Office Depot store on that corner. Travel exactly 2 miles to the driveway to the Inn. The driveway is on the left side of Portage Road. If you cross over the expressway you have gone a little too far. Note: Other on-line maps and GPS systems will tell you to exit off I39 at exit #132. We strongly suggest that you follow the directions above to avoid the road construction zone on Portage Road north of the Inn. From Minneapolis (265 miles): take Interstate 94 East 262 miles to Madison exit #135A. This will put you on US Highway 151 South, East Washington Ave. Go to the 4th stoplight and make a right turn onto Portage Road. There is an Office Depot store on that corner. From Dubuque, Iowa (104 miles): take US Highway 151 North 87 miles to Madison and then take US Highways 12 and 14 East 7.4 miles to US Highway 51 North. Turn Left on Highway 51, Stoughton Road and go about 5 miles. Turn Right on US Highway 151, East Washington Ave. Go to the 3rd stoplight and make a left turn onto Portage Road. There is an Office Depot store on that corner. Travel exactly 2 miles to the driveway to the Inn. The driveway is on the left side of Portage Road. If you cross over the expressway you have gone a little too far. From Dane County Regional Airport: depart the airport on International Lane. Turn left at the 1st stoplight onto Anderson and travel 1.4 miles. Turn right on Stoughton road and move quickly to the left turn lane. Turn Left on East Washington Avenue. Go to the 3rd stoplight and make a left turn onto Portage Road. (there is an Office Depot store on that corner). Travel exactly 2 miles on Portage Road and the driveway to the Inn will be on the left. If you cross over the expressway, you have gone a little too far. From Downtown Madison and UW Campus: From the capitol square turn right onto East Washington Avenue (big glass US Bank Building) and travel 5.5 miles East on East Washington Avenue. Turn Left on Portage road (Office Depot on the corner) and travel exactly 2 miles to the driveway to the Inn on the left. If you cross the expressway you have gone a little too far.
