Regent House Hotel History. The building housing the Regent House Hotel was built in 1805 by the architect William Burn who also designed many houses in Forth Street and a number of Georgian and Palladian houses in the countryside. During the Victorian times it was run as a sea-captains' house while around the 1890s, the
tea room was converted into a grocery
shop. The building became a hotel in 1942 when the Grant sisters -two spinsters- bought the building next door and combined it into a hotel with a
tea room. They started serving morning
coffee, high teas, cream teas and traditional
lunches. The current proprietors have now restored the past glory of the hotel by bringing back the
tea room.
