Waverley is the main station, situated just off Princes Street - 1 mile away and is approximately 5 minutes by taxi to the hotel. Haymarket station is to the west of the city centre approximately 1.5 miles from the hotel and will take about 10 minutes in a taxi. Edinburgh has direct trains to London (journey time 4hr 30mins), which depart and arrive every half an hour. Edinburgh is also easily accessible by train from Newcastle, York, Leeds and Manchester. Travelling From the West and the Airport From the M8 Eastbound, take A8 and after the airport to your left keep in the right lane, then under the underpass. Go straight on at major lights. Keep on this road for approximately 4 miles until you reach Princes Street (after Shandwick Place). Carry on to Princes Street and take the first left onto South South Charlotte Street. Go straight ahead and down the hill. Take a right (no left turn) onto Albyn Place, leading to Queen Street. Once on Queen street, take the 2nd turning on your left onto Queen Street Gardens East and then the 3rd right onto Great King Street. The Howard is situated within the first block on the left hand side. From the North Approach Edinburgh on the A90 from the Forth Road Bridge and follow signs for the city centre. At the Holiday Inn Garden Court Hotel (Right), take right fork on the road. Continue straight on at a roundabout and aim for the town centre. You will cross a large old bridge (Dean Bridge) about 1 mile from the roundabout. Upon leaving the bridge, there will be a small hill. Take the first left after the bridge at the traffic lights on to Randolph Crescent. Take the first left and right at the mini-roundabout onto St Colme Street, leading to Queen Street. Once on Queen street, take the 2nd turning on your left onto Dundas Street and then the 3rd right onto Great King Street. The Howard is situated within the first block on the left hand side. From the South The A1 North will bring you right into Edinburgh's city centre.Drive past the Playhouse (on your left) and take the second exit at the immediate roundabout (by the cinema/Omni Centre). Drive along York Place, which becomes Queen Street, Take the second right along Queen Street Gardens West, which becomes Howe Street. Take the third right turn which is Great King Street. Travel along the cobbled street and go straight over the traffic lights, The Howard is almost immediately on the left hand side. From the A7 or A68 turn left onto bypass A720 and then right, off the bypass, onto A702. From A702 and A703 go over bypass staying on A702. Stay on to Comiston Road, Morningside Road, Bruntsfield Place - past the Kings Theatre on the right. Keep in the left lane and bear left at lights onto Lothian Road. At the end take a right onto Princes Street and immediate left onto South Charlotte Street. Go straight ahead and down the hill. Take a right (no left turn) onto St Colme Street, leading to Queen Street. Once on Queen street, take the 2nd turning on your left onto Dundas Street and then the 3rd right onto Great King Street. The Howard is situated within the first block on the left hand side. From the A70 go into town and from Dalry Road keep in the left lane. You'll join Haymarket Terrace.
