Information and Reservations. For communication we use e-mail, There is no
telephone service to our area. We now have
satellite for our
internet and no longer have to travel to Puerto Jimenez to get our email, so email is definitely the fastest most reliable method of communication. Unfortunately, just like everything down here, it is not 100% reliable and every so often the
satellite connection fails. When this happens we get to Puerto Jimenez as soon as possible to retrieve emails but it may be 24-48 hours before we can get there. We apologize for this inconvenience but since we are a very small and not very commercial lodge and prefer responding to your letters personally, we have not hired a company to do our reservation work for us. Thanks for your patience. Of course with the
internet communication we should be able to use VoIP but at the moment the uplink to the
satellite is not very good so usually we can't use the
phone that came with the system. Hopefully we'll get that worked out by next high season. We have a cell
phone number that works in the main town and has
voice mail. We try to retrieve our messages at least once a week or maybe twice, but since our various
phone services do not always work well there are no guarantees. 824 1372 There is no private
phone service in our town but we do have a cell
phone, you may want to try (usually the circuits are busy and this year it almost never works). 383-3905. Although email is the best method for last minute communication and reservations we do have a communications
office in Puerto Jimenez which has
radio contact with us but due to our mountain location the
radio contact is not always dependable either. The attendants all speak English. This
office provides communication and travel services for several lodges so please ask for Bosque del Rio Tigre. If we are not immediately available to answer your request via
radio, please leave a
phone number and the best times to call. Also if you have a specific question, they will continue to try and reach us and get back to you with an answer. 735 5062 Reservations, which are best made by e-mail, are recommended and enable us to provide you with the highest quality of service possible. Please include a
fax and
phone number in your letters, when possible, since communication modes are not always dependable. We are happy to help with your other travel arrangements including purchase of your local airline
tickets, local
car rental, other hotel reservations and
tour arrangements. Additionally, we can arrange for a
taxi to meet you at the
airport or bus stop. Elizabeth Jones or Abraham Gallo Dos Brazos Puerto Jimenez de Osa Costa Rica. Email:

Our favorite occupation is introducing folks to the diversity and
beauty of the rain forest. We offer guided
tours customized to your interests and time. A half-day walk, with an experienced guide and naturalist, is highly recommended to enrich your rain forest experience.. The wilderness of the Osa Peninsula is waiting for you. Grab your cameras and binoculars and lets go! We want to show you one of the most beautiful and bio-diverse places on earth. Abraham, who has been walking the mountain trails of this peninsula for over 35 years, loves to share his accumulated knowledge of the trees, plants, birds, reptiles, frogs and mammals of the rainforest. There are a wealth of trails to choose from covering a wide variety of terrain and habitats. Excursions can be made locally in the Reserva Forestal Golfo Dulce (the equivalent to the US National Forests), Parque Nacional Corcovado or our private reserve as well as to other points of interest on The Osa Peninsula. We make a point of using the less traveled trails so you may experience the rainforest in the most natural and wild state. In addition to hiking, birding and nature walks there are many other activities to choose from, Horseback riding, recreational gold panning, mangrove kayaking, river tubing and mountain biking. We can also arrange
trips to a botanical
garden, tree climbing and waterfall repelling, canopy
tours, and flights to other areas on the Peninsula de Osa. Anyone can take advantage of our guiding services whether they are a guest of the lodge or staying at another facility on the Osa. For a partial listing of available activities and rates, please see our. The Rainforest Educational Packages. Over the years we have found that our guests really enjoy these well rounded packages. These packages include accommodations in our riverside eco-lodge, meals, snacks, fresh fruit juices,
dinner wine, use of binoculars, spotting scope and reference library and 4 walks or hikes in the local area, covering most of the habitats and natural history subjects such as frogs, medicinal plants, birding, general flora and fauna and rainforest ecology. These usually include an a 5 hr primary rainforest hike, a morning bird walk, an afternoon nature or medicinal plant walk, and a night/frog walk. The Tigre Birding and Osa Birding packages. For those interested in general birding and/or finding our local specialties. See our. The Rio Pizote is a small river surrounded by mountains teeming with wildlife and predominately primary forest with some sections of secondary forest. This hike is probably the best for viewing wildlife and can be a half-day or full day
trip. It's a good choice for one person or an entire family. Another popular
trip is the one way hike to Carate passing the small, mountain gold mining town of Piedras Blancas. This is a beautiful 7 to 8 hour walk through mostly primary forest in and on the edges of Corcovado Park This hike is for physically fit individuals. Return
taxi to Puerto Jimenez is $30 extra. Minimum of three people is required. There is now a collective
taxi which lowers the cost of the return transport substantially. Please ask if you are interested. The morning bird walk, the night frog walk and Abraham's medicinal plant
tour are extremely popular options. These run between 1-3 hours. Most
trips start in Dos Brazos at our lodge, which is only 25 minutes from Puerto Jimenez. It's the fastest way to ge t to Corcovado Park and the surrounding Reserva Forestal Golfo Dulce. And it's cooler than the traditional access involving a one day hike along the beach! We prefer to start early in the morning no later than 6:30 or 7:00. We can provide lodging the night before if you would like. The longer excursions are priced at $40-$45 per person for full day (more than 4 hours) and $35 for half day. Prices are discounted for more than 4 people. All
trips include snacks and/or sandwiches. After your hike you may relax at the lodge and use our extensive reference library, our private, marked trails and our 50-ft. waterfall.
Getting there is half the fun. Right? When you arrive in Costa Rica you can pick up a road map of Costa Rica at the
airport or at any travel agent. Look for the Osa Peninsula in the southwest corner of the country. About halfway down the peninsula you will see Puerto Jimenez on the Gulf side. We are 8 kilometers west of the gulf coast road just north of Puerto Jimenez in the foothills of the mountains. Give yourself a full day to travel anywhere in Costa Rica and plan on relaxing and enjoying the drive. I know it looks like a small country but there are few road signs and the roads can be rough with occasional holdups due to landslides, disabled vehicles and accidents. It all works out just fine if you have the right attitude. I've had a great time talking with people and bird watching during those holdups. Generally it takes 7 to 8 hours to get to our place by car, 9-10 hours by bus and 45 minutes by air. If you are driving, we will send you detailed directions. If you really want to have the flexibility of a car and don't want to do the drive all the way down, there is now a
car rental agency in Puerto Jimenez. We can make the reservation for you if you would like. The cars are all 4x4 and range from $70-$120 per day with discounted weekly rates. You can also get a pick up or delivery from the
car rental agencies in San Jose but it will probably run between $75-$175. If you do not have a lot of time, most of the year you can fly down to the Osa the same day you arrive in San Jose and leave the same day also. Schedule your international flights with the incoming flight as early as possible and the return some time around mid day. During the high season there is a flight that leaves San Jose for Puerto Jimenez at 3:15. You will need to allow about 1 hour for customs and immigration and 1/2 hour to get to the local
airport. We always have plenty of outgoing morning flights to return by with the first one at 7 AM. There are two National Airlines which fly into Puerto Jimenez. Sansa is $99 one way and flies out of a terminal next to the international
airport. Natureair is $112 one way. They fly out of a terminal in Pavas, on the other side of San Jose. Both airlines have morning and afternoon flights December through April. Mid- April through November the flights are usually in the morning and around midday. Since the schedules often change with little notice, please check with us for the current schedule. You may make reservations with these airlines directly but it can be difficult. From experience, we have found that the easiest and most reliable way to make reservations is through us. If you run into problems let us know and we'll see what we can do. There is also a private charter service available between San Jose and Pto. Jimenez or to other destinations on the Peninsula and in Costa Rica. We can arrange to have a
taxi waiting to pick you up at the
airport or dock in Puerto Jimenez. The
taxis charge approximately $20 one way. If you need a
taxi and have not pre-arranged one, there are usually some at the
airport and many in the town
center ( it's a bit of a walk with luggage). For some suggestions of things to bring along
