The Only Bed Breakfast In Hopkins Village. Hopkins Inn is located in Hopkins Village, a Garifuna fishing village on the mainland coast of southern Belize. Old customs survive in this quiet, traditional village, for example drumming and the Garifuna language. Modern conveniences have been available only since the early 1990's. Hopkins' distinct culture, friendly Garinagu people, and laid back pace combine for an interesting and relaxing vacation. Hopkins Inn's private cabanas are on the beach just steps away from the Caribbean. They are spaced to ensure complete privacy. The cabanas are well built using local hardwoods and furnishings. The clean and comfortable interiors are fully tiled and screened and have a private bath, a verandah with view of the sea, a refrigerator, a coffee maker, and fans. There are chairs and hammocks on the palm shaded beach for relaxing and lounging. Watch for manatees, go for a swim, chat with the villagers, or just enjoy the gentle breeze. We offer several kinds of cabanas, with one to three beds (twin to queen) to accommodate up to four people per cabana at very reasonable rates. Breakfast is served on each individual verandah every morning. We offer a variety of seasonal fruits and locally baked, fresh breads and pastries as well as juice, coffee, tea, and condiments. For lunch and dinner the restaurants of Hopkins are an easy walk away. All are small, locally owned businesses that serve good, reasonably priced meals like fresh fish, shrimp, and lobster and a variety of other dishes. There are also several well-stocked grocery stores. One of Belize's major attractions is its barrier reef, the longest in the Western Hemisphere. It is dotted with hundreds of little islands called cayes. Diving, snorkeling, and fishing are spectacular. Other attractions include the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary (Jaguar Preserve) and the Mayflower/Bocawina National Park for hiking and exploring the rainforest, and the Sittee River and nearby lagoons for wildlife watching, fishing, or canoeing. Bed Breakfast Seit 1994. Hopkins Village ist ein kleines, idyllisches Garifuna Fischerdorf an der Suedkueste von Belize. Hier ist das Leben noch einfach und die traditionsbewussten Einwohner haben voller Stolz ihre Garifuna Sprache erhalten (Englisch wird aber auch gesprochen, wie ueberall in Belize). Die moderne Welt mit ihrer Technik hat hier erst vor ein paar Jahren Eintritt gehalten. Ein Urlaub in Hopkins, dass heisst freundliche Leute und eine bunte, karibische Atmosphaere; genau das Richtige fuer die gestressten Menschen der Industriewelt. Unsere Cabanas haben kuehle Fliesenfussboeden, huebsche Holzdecken, sind sehr sauber und liegen ausserdem nur ein paar Meter vom Meer entfernt direkt am Strand. Von der Veranda aus hat man einen wunderschoenen Ausblick auf die Karibische See, wo man ab und zu mal Manatees (Seekuehe) beobachten kann. Ein modernes, gekacheltes Badezimmer mit heisser Dusche, ein Kuehlschrank, eine Kaffeemaschine und Ventilatoren sorgen fuer Ihren Komfort. Wir bieten Cabanas mit einem, zwei und drei Betten an. Bis zu 4 Personen koennen eine Cabana teilen. Morgens servieren wir das Fruehstueck auf Ihrer Verandah. Es gibt frisch ausgepressten Saft, Obst der Saison, verschiedene frische Backwaren (von den Frauen im Dorf gebacken), sowie Kaffee oder Tee. Hopkins hat inzwischen schon eine ganze Anzahl von Restaurants. Das Essen ist gut und preiswert. Es gibt z.B. Reis, rote Bohnen und Huehnchen (das unoffizielle Belizianische Nationalgericht), Langusten, Shrimps und Conch (saisonbedingt) und frischen Fisch, sowie Schnellgerichte wie Hamburgers und Burritos. Hopkins ist verhaeltnismaessig klein und man kann ueberall bequem zu Fuss hingehen. Vor der Kueste von Belize liegt ein 185 Meilen langes Korallenriff, das laengste in der Westlichen Hemisphaere. Die Unterwasserwelt ist einfach fantastisch. Bootsfahrten ans Riff zum Schnorcheln und Tauchen sind sehr beliebt. Viele Urlauber reisen gerade deshalb nach Belize. Von Hopkins aus ist das Riff in ca. 40 Minuten zu erreichen. Weitere Sehenswuerdigkeiten in der Naehe sind das Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary (Jaguar Reservat) und der Mayflower Bocawina Nationalpark, wo man wunderbar die Flora und Fauna des Regenwaldes kennenlernen kann, sowie der Sittee River und mehrere Lagunen. Dort kann man Kanu oder Kajak fahren, angeln und Voegel oder andere Tiere beobachten, wie z.B. Leguane. Tauchbasen sind ganz in der Naehe.
