Directions and helpful hints How to get to Room With A View: Most people will arrive by plane at Keflavik International airport. It is about 50 km. from Reykjavik. We can arrange for a pre-booked taxi for up to 4 passengers plus luggage for 6.000 Icelandic kronurs or 85 $ / 65 Euros total (tips are not the customs in Iceland) for the car not per person. A bigger taxi for up to 5-8 people is 8.000 ISK or 120$ / 90 euros This special fare is subject to availability of the cheapest taxi but we will confirm availability with your booking. The driver will have a sign wih OUR name on it. If you hire a car at the airport you should follow the signs for Reykjavik city center. My street is on every map of Reykjavik as it is the main shopping street. It is however a long street going through most of the city center and out toward the east part of town. In the city center it is a One-way street but you can enter it from many of the smaller side streets. The closest crossroad is Laugavegur and Klapparstigur and after that you will have on your left hand side a small street Vegamotastigur which is not on every map. We are in the big building on this corner of Laugavegur and Vegamotastigur. You can turn on this corner, as there is easy car park in this street or behind our building. Next to us one house further down Laugavegur the main street there is big red neon sign HOTEL which are our Neighbors at Hotel Skjaldbreid. Parking is easy and you only pay in the meters on the main street during shopping hours 10-18 on weekdays and 10-14 on Saturday and Sunday and all other hours are free so you just park on the meters and pay after 10 in the mornings or move your car to the residential streets up or down one street from Laugavegur. You can park in the spaces right behind our building even if there is a Tow-away sign there and unload your luggage. The bus from the airport -FLY BUS- cost 1.150 ISK. or about 16 $ / 13 Euros per person. It will make a stop at the bus terminal where the driver may ask you to change over to a smaller bus for the city center. They will then drive you to our hotel. Some of the planes to Iceland arrive late in the evening or at night and late check-in is no problem if you just let us know your flight arrival time we can follow the landing times on our screens and we know when to expect you. We will then check you in and give you the keys to your apartment.Remember that there is a Duty Free store for incoming passengers at Keflavik airport and this is you last chance of buying your Duty free allowance of beer (12 cans), wine (one liter) and spirits (one liter). Once you have entered Iceland the goverment taxes alcohol heavily and the prices can be 3 times more expensive than at the airport. There are banks and Cash machines at the airport and they are in service 24 hours. Also Visa and MasterCard are accepted everywhere in Iceland and there is no minimum. You can pay taxis and buses with a card and even buy a cup of coffee or a bottle of Coke with a credit card. Amex is not widely accepted as it has been badly serviced here in the past years but Visa and MasterCard are accepted everywhere. The current exchange rate for selling euro is about 97 ISK and US $ is about 75 ISK and 132 ISK for each GBP. This can fluctuate. Iceland has 220 voltage and standard European (german type) plugs. We have plug adaptors but you should not bring equipment that need 110 volts only like hair dryers but cameras and computers usually have dual voltage 110/220 and they are fine.
