Short description about Budapest. Budapest, the capital of Hungary covers an area of 525 km. one third of which is taken up by hilly Buda and two thirds by
flat Pest. Its vibrant cultural and artistic life and the growing reputation of its
spa waters made the city one of the finest in Europe. Budapest is not only happy to have tourist, it is tourist-friendly as well. The beautiful Parliament Building is one of the biggest buildings in the country. The Andrassy Street or the Andrassy Avenue leads into the Heroes Square. In the middle of the capitals most elegant and most celebrated square stands the Memorial Stone to the National Heroes and the tomb of the unknown warrior. The square is made all the more impressive by the buildings looking into it. The Museum of Fine Arts contains the best collection of paintings in the country. Opposite stands the eclecticneo-classical Picture Gallery which has the largest exhibition space in Hungary. Heroes Square in turn leads to the Liget, which is the capitals largest park. Here stands the Vajdahunyad Castle, that was originally built to provide temporary wooden exhibition space for the 1896 Millenium Exhibition. It now houses the Agricultural Museum, a museum which contains one of the worlds most valuable collections of hunting trophies. The castle
courtyard, which has a Renaissance atmosphere about it, is a venue for outdoor concerts during the summer, and a Nativity play, with real animals and a real live Jesus, during Advent. In this part of the Varosliget you can see the Fairground, the Capitals Big Top, and Europes largest medicinal
bath, the Szechenyi Medicinal
Baths and
Swimming Pool. Buda has also got beautiful and famous sights. You can use one of the seven bridges to get to Buda. For instance the Elizabeth Bridge, which crosses the river Danube at its narrowest point in Hungary, links Pest with Buda at the foot of Gellert Hill. The hotwater springs at the foot of Gellert Hill supply the Rac, the Rudas and the Gellert
Baths. On the highest point of the hill you will find the Statue of Liberty, depicted in the form of a woman holding a palm. The
terrace situated on the side of the hill in front of the Citadel offers perhaps the best view of the city, both night and day. Walking up on the hill you come across the Astronomical Observatory the Saint Gellert Memoria and the Rock Church built into Saint Ivans cave. The castle, that was built after the Tatar Invasion by Bela IV. The royal settlement, which grew within its walls grew rapidly culminating in the building projects which went on during the reign of Matthias Corvinus. Building on the Matthias Church was also during the reign of BelaIV. The Fishermans Bastion and the Andras Hess ter are also near to the church. The easiest way to get from the Castle to the Adam Clark ter is to use the
cable railway. You can see the Chainbridge, the 0 milestone and 350 m tunnel this way. Distances to main sights from Hotel Gloria: With public transportation. Main railway station (Eastern). Heroes square / Hsok tere. Szechenyi Medical
