The Islands are located some 48 kms east of Phuket and 42 kms south of Krabi and consist of the larger inhabited Phi Phi Don and the smaller Phi Phi Lei, which obtained reputation from the blockbuster movie THE BEACH. HOLIDAY INN Since June 1st 2001, Palm Beach Travelodge resort is officially Holiday Inn Resort Phi Phi Island, a member of the Inter Continental group of hotels and resorts. LOCATION The resort is situated at the less touristy northern tip of the larger Phi Phi Don Island. The normal area for day-trippers is to the island's Southern coast and to Maya Bay, which is located on the smaller Phi Phi Lei Island. ACCOMMODATION The resort is an intimate boutique style comprising 77 bungalows built on the beachfront and throughout the tropical gardens. All bungalows are of the same size and with same facilities featuring polished wooden floors, air-conditioning, private terrace, tea / coffee facilities in room safe, hairdryer, minibar and shower. For families interconnecting bungalows are available. TRANSFERS Public ferries depart both to and from Phuket twice daily at approximately 0830 and 1330. The boat journey takes approximately 3 hrs according to tidal conditions. From Phuket airport to the ferry you must allow approximately one hour. Staff from the resort will assist with boarding the ferry both in Phuket and on the island. If you are traveling from Krabi, please visit our website or contact us. Pre-booking may also be made for private speedboat transfers. BEDDING All bungalows contain a King sized bed and an additional single bed. Rollaway beds are available upon request subject to availability. CHECK IN / OUT TIMES Check in time is 13.30 hrs daily. Check out time is 11.30 hrs daily. For your convenience prior or after the boat transfer we have full shower and changing areas should you require. RESTAURANTS The resort offers two restaurants and two bars. Tai Rom Prao offers the choice of dining inside or outside on the terrace, with a selection of European, Thai and Asian cuisine. Breakfast is served as buffet daily and a la carte menu choices are available at lunch and dinner. Cha Bah seafood restaurant has a beautiful beachfront setting where you will hear the sound of the sea and enjoy the sand between your toes as you dine. A fresh seafood market concept is featured each night. Mong Thalay Bar overlooks the beach in front of the resort and opens from midday to midnight for a relaxing drink whilst our live band entertains you. Sunset Satay Bar, located on the hilltop offers the best sunset view on Phi Phi island whilst you look out over the Andaman Sea towards Phuket. Average costs for meals per person are 350 Baht for breakfast, 350 Baht for lunch and 650 Baht for dinner.(++ for all) (Cha Bah restaurant and Sunset Satay Bar are subject to weather.). INTERNET Internet and email access is available in the resort lobby. HANDICAPPED FACILITIES Whilst the resort offers easy access, the boat journey is challenging for those with any walking difficulties. CHILDREN FACILITIES A children's pool is available and baby cots or baby sitters may be arranged. ACTIVITIES For the energetic we offer a daily activities program including boat tours, batik painting, cultural and cooking courses and sports including beach volleyball, tennis, snooker darts. A mini book library and video selection is also available at all times. WATER SPORTS Snorkeling, canoeing and windsurfing are available complimentary. Fishing is available with a local guide either from local long-tail boat or speedboat and the resort has a 5 star PADI Dive center. BEACH SWIMMING The hotel fronts onto 500 meters of white sandy beach beachfront qualified as maritime national park, which is suitable for swimming with seldom any tidal currents. The resort also offers a fresh water free form pool with a depth of 1-2 m and adjoining Jacuzzi pool. HEALTH / MEDICAL A registered nurse is available at the resort 24 hours per day for any minor medical requirements. A small hospital facility is also available at the main Township and there are excellent international facilities in Phuket if required. In the event of an emergency a speedboat may be arranged through the resort. Of course, do not forget in tropical locations, sun block and insect repellant are both recommended for your comfort. ELECTRICITY Electrical supply is 220 volt / 50 cycles. Adapters are available at the resort. LANGUAGES English is spoken and certain staff at the resort speaks other European languages. TRANSPORT As there are no roads on the island, transportation is by local long-tail boats, which can be easily rented at low cost. TOURS / EXCURSIONS The nearby islands and beaches offer opportunities for scuba diving, snorkeling, picnics and sightseeing which can be arranged. The resort offers a choice of more than 10 options either individually or as part of a small group. HOTEL OFFICE The resort reservations office is located in Phuket town and is able to provide any assistance you may require on the day of your arrival or departure. HONEYMOONS Special arrangements are available through your agent for this occasion. CLOTHING Light free flowing clothes are recommended in tropical climates. AIRLINE OFFICES There are no offices on the island, however the resort staff can handle confirmation of tickets or ticket purchase with prior notice. SHOPPING The resort boutique offers a wide range of gifts, artifacts and souvenirs, reading materials, basic pharmacy items, snack food and beverages. The main township of Tonsai Bay, has a wide variety of small shops, bars and restaurants and is approximately 20 minutes by local boat from the resort. Our weekly night market at the resort also offers opportunity to find items of interest. BANK / MONEY Foreign exchange facilities are available at the resort and all major credit cards are accepted. The nearest ATM machines are located in Phuket. TELEPHONE All rooms are provided with telephones. Due to the island landscape mobile phone access is inconsistent and not available in all areas. GOLF There are no facilities for golf on the Phi Phi Islands. If you are bringing golf clubs on your trip to Thailand, we suggest making arrangements to leave them at your hotel in Phuket / Krabi prior to your departure for Phi Phi. CLIMATE The Andaman Sea region enjoys a tropical climate throughout the year. Temperatures range between 25 to 35 degrees centigrade, with a monthly average of approx 30º. Humidity ranges approx 75% to 95%. Whilst the weather is generally sunny year round, the period from May to October during the monsoon is expected to have increased rain and stronger winds. The resort is on the northern part of Phi Phi Don Island at Laem Tong Beach. How can we arrive at your resort? Do we have to stay overnight in Phuket? Please arrange a transfer via our resort at the time of booking. If you book the morning ferry, you will need to stay overnight at Holiday Inn Resort Phuket. If your flight lands at Phuket airport not later than 11.30hrs, then it is possible to take the afternoon ferry. Can we arrive at your resort from Krabi? Yes, there are two daily boats from Chow Fah pier at 09.30 and 14.30 to Phi Phi Island. Are there different seasons on Phi Phi Island? Yes, the high season is from late October until early April; the low season from the middle of April till the middle of October. What kind of weather can we expect during the rainy season? We have always used bottled drinking water on the island due to no centralized water supply. Our general water supply (showers and toilets) is sourced from an underground well and processed in filtration tanks before being supplied to rooms. Is the electricity supply working? The resort is situated on a secluded beach in the northeast of the island, away from the township and centralized infrastructure. Because of this, we have always supplied our own energy through the use of diesel generators. Electricity supply remains constant. Is there access to fresh food and supplies? The resort continues to be serviced by daily ferries and we also have a separate transport company to bring us fresh produce as and when required. There are no shortages of any foodstuffs or general consumable items here on the resort. What activities are available? The resort offers a full range of water sports activities (snorkeling, diving, windsurfing, kayaking) as well as day-trips to nearby islands on traditional long-tail boats. Some of the activities incur a small fee. What is the quality of the diving and snorkeling like? We continue to receive guests from all over the world, many of whom charter boats for snorkeling or diving activities. Marine life is abundant and many comments are received about the magnificent colors and varieties of the fish species. I have seen the movie The Beach Can I still go to Maya Bay where this was filmed? Maya Bay is situated on Phi Phi Leh Island, just south of the main island and is fully accessible by long tail boat or speedboat. The Beach remains a popular destination for snorkeling and day-trips for picnics and exploring. How do I get to Holiday Inn Resort Phi Phi Island? A scheduled ferry service runs daily from the Phuket Fisheries Authority Pier to Laem Tong Beach where Holiday Inn Resort is located. Please confirm your ferry booking prior to arrival so that our Phuket staff can arrange for your transfers from Phuket Airport or your hotel. If traveling from Krabi, there is still a ferry service that operates to Tonsai Bay and a long-tail boat transfer would be required to transfer to the resort. Please advise resort staff of your travel times so that we may make the necessary transfer connections. Please allow approximately 2 hours for ferry transfers. A private speedboat can also be chartered from Phuket or Krabi if required. Travel time is approximately 50 minutes by speedboat. I cannot find a direct flight to Phuket. What are my options? Due to some changes to flight schedules and charter flights you may not be able to find a direct flight to Phuket.
