Set in 14 acres of private woodland and
gardens, the hotel takes its name from the neighbouring ruins of one of the greatest Cistercian foundations in the country, Furness Abbey. Built in 1914 by Sir Edwin Lutyens, the original sandstone mansion was the home and guesthouse of Commander Craven, Chairman of Vickers Shipbuilding. Many dignitaries came to stay, including King George V, The Prince of Wales and the Queen Mother, whilst she was the Duchess of York. We are now recognised as the leading hotel in the Furness area, many return with friends as we uphold the tradition of treating guests like royalty! So much so that the captains of
business and industry have made the hotel a regular venue for their
conferences and
seminars.
