Feel free to browse about our Homestead. The house dates to Victorian times. It was built in 1867. The house was then magnificently and enchantingly restored, and enlarged, in 1995 to accommodate three full double size bedrooms each with their own en-suite bathrooms. Moreover, there is a separate detached unit or suite outside for comfortable privacy and quiet independent moments ( very good for lovers... ). Fortunately, attention was given to the necessary space travellers need to rest in and enjoy themselves. There is more space devoted to the living and enjoying of your holidays than in a normal bed and breakfast hotel. There is a reception or drawing room at the top. On the lower level there is a living room, a television and video or recreational area, a dining area for classic style dinners and suppers, and a kitchen and pantry area, where, if your needs be, you can do your own self-catering. The rest of the bottom area which, incidentally, was decorated with madeiran adornments to a style and taste of that of a norwegian interior, is devoted to the reception and collection of soft warm and fresh breezes. Here too the dappled sunlight will seductively lull you to sleep as it comes through the attractive satin gren shutters - that open as doors to the patio - which in turn is shaded by the traditional and characteristic vine lintel. Yet, if you feel more need for a brighter sunnier afternoon you may want to sit under the umbrella in our garden alongside the house. You can still enjoy a cool drink on the open air verandah-style living area out in the garden.

A walk through the village of Seixal. The history of Seixal is the history of its people. The hardened wrinkled lines on the faces of some of the villagers lie like ravines into what should be the predictable past of this tiny corner of the island,...of the world. But do not make the mistake of dismissing the village as another typical point where people leave with no intention of return. The population today stands less than half what it was 20 to 30 years ago. But for most it is far too enchanting to throw away the life here for that of a bigger city. The capture of this enclave by the sea made it possible for sailors to harbour near the untouched mountain side in 1567 for the first time on a permanent basis. The sea was the normal trade route and means of communication. So it was natural to build fort and home here. Agricultre was pursued to supplement the already rich fishing potential on this side of the island cerca17th century. The population rose steadily to about 3 500 people inbetween the 18th and 19th centuries. (This part is still not complete...). Seixal is also patrolled by those other hunters. If you happen to be a diurnal lepidopterous being, that is, if you are so unfortunate ( or fortunate ) enough in having knobbed antennae, and carrying your colourful wings erect when at rest:...yes, thats right a butterfly. If you are a butterfly then there are no more cleaner and robust pastures to venture into. Likewise if you are a papiliomaniac feel free to exercise those web and dart techniques of yours...
