Sleepy Creek meanders around three sides of The Gatehouse's 24 acres and is suitable for wading. If the water is higher, bobbing along in a tube on Sleepy Creek makes for a pleasant afternoon. A path runs alongside the creek the length of the farm. Sleepy Creek is host to harparella, a near-extinct plant that grows only in clean water. Deer, chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, and turtles live on the farm and we have even seen a bear. A groundhog family lives under the barn. In the spring, look for babies in the meadow. Birds include turkeys, grouse, hawks, owls, kingfishers, most of the usual (cardinals, blue jays, sparrows, tufted titmouse, black-capped chickadees), and an occasional warbler, rose-breasted grosbeak, killdeer, as well as a lost goose or duck. Who knows what you might add to your life list. There's also a wonderful hill for sledding if the weather cooperates. All Properties Are Non-Smoking! © 2006 The Gatehouse at Sleepy Creek

Inside the Gatehouse you will find the rustic charm of a country farm. Built originally as a log cabin and added to over time, generations of farmers have called this house home. Enter through the side door of the house at the end of a tree-covered drive, a screened-in porch overlooks the 12-acre meadow. Breezy and spacious, it is a wonderful outdoor living room for the house and great for summer breakfasts and good conversation. A breakfast nook between the porch and the main house provides a warm entranceway to the rest of the house. From there, pass through the full kitchen and adjacent dining room to a spacious living room with gas-fireplace. Adjacent to the living room on the creek side of the house is another screened porch. Behind the living room is the master bedroom with adjoining full bath. Next to the fireplace is the staircase to the second floor, with its two bedrooms and second floor full bath. Below are some photos of the house. Enjoy your visit. Recent quotes from the Guest Journal at Gatehouse. The setting here is lovely. The fall leaves changing colors are absolutely beautiful. The Gatehouse sits on the low edge of a great 12-acre meadow, next to a forest which hides the ever-flowing Sleepy Creek. Situated at the end of the road, the property is private, and stretches from the creek, which wraps around the property, through the forest and the meadow, to high ground where undeveloped land is only sometimes used as a retreat for a local church. Stroll among the trees and along the creek where a path extends throughout the property. Or wander through the meadow for that peaceful experience that only comes from being far, far away from civilization. We enjoyed a truly fun and relaxing weekend at your house.
