Our one hundred year old restored Mexican territorial inn is rated one of the top twenty Inns in the country. Its two double-story guest houses are joined by a vast Great Room that must be seen to be fully appreciated. Dark wood floors, an eighteen-foot pressed tin ceiling, an 1855 German piano, and Jacobean-style furniture lend a pleasing Old World ambience to the living room, while the tall arched windows and large paintings (most notably those by Ken Barrick, Kathy Morrow and Dorothy Tuma) grace the room. With 20 widely different guest rooms, the Inn offers excellent accommodations for groups as well as individual guests. Each room is named after a famous New Mexican or Native American artist and is decorated accordingly. Among the most memorable are the Maria Martinez room, with its vigas and latilla Anasazi headboard, and the Georgia O'Keeffe room in black, white, and gray, with calla lilies on the mantel. The R. C. Gorman room boasts its own private entrance and features a kiva fireplace and partial viga ceiling. The Lundeen Inn serves a diverse clientele that ranges from the visual and performing artists and government scientists to corporate travelers and vacationing families, couples and individuals. Many are international visitors. This intellectual and cultural diversity creates a wonderful atmosphere for sharing. Any morning, breakfast promises stimulating conversations and exciting new acquaintances. The Inn is a place where all may come and feel at home. Linda is a native New Mexican and one of the State's leading art dealers. Jerry, raised on an Indian reservation in North Dakota, is a professional architect and designed many of the Inn's unique features. Linda takes a special pleasure in walking guests through the Gallery and introducing them to the artists who often visit the Inn. Jerry loves to visit with guests sharing his extensive knowledge of Southwestern architecture. Their special knowledge and deep love of the Southwest culture has inspired guests for over 12 years and kept many of them coming back. Hosts: Linda and Jerry Lundeen. RATES SUBJECT TO CHANGE. Located in the Upper Chihuahuan Desert of Southern New Mexico, with an elevation of 3900 ft. above sea level, Las Cruces captures the heart of all who visit with its rich history, the beauty of its mountains and vistas and the hospitality of the multi-cultured people. The Inn of the Arts is located in the historic district of Las Cruces, at 618 S. Alameda Blvd., just a short walk to the Downtown Mall where on Wednesday Saturday mornings visitors may shop for an array of New Mexico's finest gifts and foods at the Farmer's Market. (Rated in the top 10 Arts and Crafts Markets in the country.) Follow the trail of Don Juan de Onate into La Mesilla (5 minutes away), and roam the streets of Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett while enjoying some of the nicest galleries and finest food in the world. The Inn is a center for a variety of special events and activities throughout the year. Jerry, a lay minister, performs weddings in the Garden Gazebo, a charming location for receptions and family reunions. Each year, Linda, a sponsor of the annual Las Cruces Art Hop, opens The Inn to art lovers and artists in the region. The Lundeen Foundation hosts seminars in Southwestern architecture and literature, weaving, coiled pottery, silversmithing and hands-on adobe making. Every year guest alumni of The Inn, who have made Las Cruces their winter or year-round home, join in the Gathering Room to celebrate friendships and the joy of being there.

Featured in Sept. '89 Country Inns Magazine, and in New Mexico Magazine in April '90! From The Southwest Bed Breakfast Guide 1992 by Lucy Poshek: Jerry and Linda Lundeen have managed to blend their bed and breakfast, art gallery, and devotion to Southwest culture so thoroughly together that it's impossible to seperate the three. Every wall of this historic Las Cruces adobe is lined with paintings, most of which are for sale. Each guest room is named after a famous New Mexican or Indian artist and decorated accordingly. While Linda runs the gallery, Jerry, an architect and lay minister (he performs weddings at the inn), often conducts week-long group seminars about Southwest architecture and literature, weaving, coiled pottery, silversmithing, and hands-on adobe making. Outside, he has built a horno, or Indian oven, where bread is baked and sometimes served to guests in the afternoon. lundeen@innofthearts.com
