In 1962 Mrs Caldwell retired and the Park Avenue was bought by the Stephens family; who prior to this acquisition were renowned for their outside catering
business 'Cambridge Caterers'. The Hotel progressed in 1963 with the addition of the Cambridge
Rooms, being a 5000 sq ft
ballroom and sitting adjacent to the main hotel. The Park Avenue ran in itıs original form until the 19th. February 1964 when it was tragically burnt to the ground, leaving way for the erection of the new hotel, which reopened in June 1967 with
39 bedrooms. In the early 80's the hotel developed further when the 'Chalet' was demolished and the Oxford
Suite emerged as a function
room of 3100 sq. ft, which could be divided into three separate areas. Taking advantage of this new area an additional
14 ensuite bedrooms were built on top of the Oxford
Suite. In the early 80's the 'Cambridge
Rooms' underwent major refurbishment along with the hotel
bedrooms. Still wanting to progress and keep up with demand an additional
17 ensuite bedrooms were built in the early 1990's, along with renovations in the Hotel
Ballroom and the major redevelopment of the foyer and reception entrance. The Park Avenue as it exists today, a three star hotel, on 3 acres of its own grounds, has a total of
