About Melvin House Hotel. Melvin House was built in 1883 by renouned architect Sidney Mitchell for John Ritchie Findley, founder of our National
Newspaper.. In the 1930;s the building served as residence to the young ladies of Queen Margaret College;Domestic Science Institute; before being passed to the National
Health Service as a
Conference Centre in the 1960;s. Now, the House has been transformed to a wonderful Town House Hotel - the elegant public
rooms having been restored to their former Victorian Splendour. We have an excellent location in the heart of Edinburgh;s fashionable West End within easy walking distance of the famous Princes Street Shopping area and all the city attractions. Melvin House is a listed building of exceptional character with its galleried library and elegant public
