Romantics Weddings at Victorian Lace Bed and Breakfast. Victorian Lace has been noted as the most romantic bed and breakfast in eastern Iowa. I like to think and have been told that my weddings are too. I will give you a copy of the wedding and the whole sermon for future reference, when life gets rough and you need to go back to square one. I have married over 80 couples in the last two years. The Bed Breakfast can handle up to 20 people at the wedding, if your wedding is bigger then that, I love to have weddings at a little church called St. Peter and Paul, north of Solon, Iowa. Please call and we will talk. Tears are guaranteed. God bless. Thanks, Reverend James. The charges for a wedding are as follows: For the wedding I charge $125, that includes 1 hour of my time, for the wedding. For rehearsals I charge $25 that includes 1 hour, and usually that's enough time to practice. $50 for travel, if the wedding is somewhere else. $25 for a room at Victorian Lace, if you need a room to use for getting ready for the wedding. A photographer is available for $125. He is good and a fraction of the cost of a regular photographer, I also have one of those, his cost is a lot more but for some weddings you need his professionalism.

The Summer Kitchen or Cottage. The Summer Kitchen or Cottage has quaintly been taken back to the charm of yesteryears. It has the wainscoting walls and ceiling from days gone by, yet is as modern as a private whirlpool for two, central heating and air conditioning and cable television. There is a private entrance for this secluded cottage away from it all. The Summer Kitchen or Cottage was originally where the lady of the house would do her cooking and canning in the summer time to keep the heat out of the house. This quaint cottage is furnished in antique kitchen theme.
A candle light four course breakfast is served in the dinning room of the main house on antique Depression glass dishes. The signature dish of this bed and breakfast is a baked glazed pear, that most find delicious. Recipe - Baked Glazed Pears. 4 pears 4 tablespoons butter or margarine 8 tablespoons brown sugar Nutmeg 1/2 cup chopped English Walnuts. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Wash and core pears. Place in a baking dish with about 1/2 inch of water. Bake for 35 minutes. When pears are almost done, melt butter in a saucepan. Add brown sugar (2 tablespoons for each pear), two dashes of nutmeg and nuts. Heat to boiling, stirring often. Just before serving, pour water from pears into sugar mixture. To serve, pour sauce over warm pears. Need an extra room for the kids or grandma? Victorian Lace provides just such accommodations for those times when you need it. Our extra room is in keeping with the elegant style provided by our other bed and breakfast rooms. So feel free to bring those extra special folks with you to Victorian Lace Bed and Breakfast.
The 1,100 square foot Holiday suite is a four room suite which includes a hidden room to explore and a whirlpool for two in the private bath. The 3rd floor location offers a view of the Cedar Rapids and Marion area from the sky lights. There are 3 Christmas trees decorating this treetop hideaway, and a 48 star flag above the bed. Both bed and breakfast rooms have in-room refrigerators that are stocked with a bottle of sparkling wine or sparkling grape, adult beverages, meat and cheese tray, an evening dessert and chocolates.
Victorian Lace Bed and Breakfast was built as a private residence and owned by the Stookey family for more than 70 years. Jim and Renee Condit are only the third owners of the property in the thirty years since the Stookey family lived in the home. The home was changed into a Bed and Breakfast in 1998. With easy access to both Cedar Rapids and Marion events and the charm of days gone by this is a get away sure to please.
