Whether you are in Whitby on business or visiting the area on holiday, you will find a warm Yorkshire welcome at The Old West Cliff Hotel. Our perfect location offers you the choice of a friendly, bustling resort on your doorstep or the peace and quiet of the magnificent surrounding countryside. Wonderful panoramic views of Whitby are enjoyed from our windows, from the cliff top lawns you will see the Spa Theatre, the harbour, Piers, the Abbey Headland, St Marys Church and even as far as Sandsend, further along the coast. The Old West Cliff Hotel was built in 1865 by the famous railway entrepreneur George Hudson, and has all the character and style of that period. The comfortable surroundings of our Lounge and Bar are ideal for relaxing and taking stock, and meals are enjoyed in our graceful Dining Room, where the cuisine is predominantly English, using much fresh local produce. Rest assured that our cellars are well stocked with fine wines to complement your meal! Our tastefully decorated bedrooms all have bath or shower en-suite and are very well-equipped with colour televisions, tea/coffee making facilities, radio-alarms and hairdryers. All have delightful views. We are open all year round and are centrally heated throughout.

The Old West Cliff Hotel is a family run hotel situated in a most prominent position in Whitby. The hotel is approximately two minutes walk from the cliff top, cliff lift, crazy golf, paddling pool, tennis courts, swimming pool and the town centre. The attractive Crescent Gardens are just outside the front door. All the hotel rooms at the front have panoramic sea views while the rear rooms have views over the playing fields and miniature golf course.

The Old West Cliff Hotel is a long established hotel, with a long tradition of catering for school, college and university groups. We are situated on the West Cliff in Whitby close to the sea and offer excellent cuisine in comfortable surroundings. Our rates for 2001 including bed, breakfast, packed lunch and dinner are from £17.50 plus VAT per person per night for age groups to 14 years. This rate applies to both children and staff. We have a total of twelve bedrooms, four are reserved for teaching staff and the remaining eight are converted to accommodate the children of which we are able to take up to thirty five. Whitby is an excellent location to explore the geography etc of the coastline and moors of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, Whitby Abbey, Captain James Cook RN, the legendary Dracula, and the still thriving fishing industry, make Whitby an ideal base. Further afield, day trips are easily accessible to the historic house of Castle Howard, the fishing village of Robin Hoods Bay, historic York, and beautiful villages and hamlets throughout the area. Whitby makes an ideal holiday destination, here you will find the sound of seagulls, the smell of fish, the sight of red roofs and jumbled alleyways winding up the steep banks from the fishing quay, and at the very top of the cliff the majestic ruins of the ancient abbey. Evening at Whitby Marina. Scenic drives can take in the coastal villages of Robin Hoods Bay, Runswick Bay and Staithes. Historic Scarborough, the Pickering to Grosmont Steam Train and the North Yorkshire Moors National Park with its host of picturesque beauty spots and market towns are all nearby. A little further afield are Castle Howard (the magical setting for Brideshead Revisted), the tourist City of York with its ancient Minster and city walls steeped in history, and just that bit further still Bronte Land and Herriot Country
