The piece of land situated at 23 King's Bridge Road, St. John's, Nfld, was once owned by the Imperial Government known as the Royal Engineers' Quarters. In 1891 the land was bought by John Bemister of Harbour Grace, Conception Bay, Nfld., that year John Bemister built a home known as Everton House. John's daughter Hannah, who later married J.B. Woods, inherited the home after his death. Hannah and her family lived happily in Everton House until 1931. The house was sold to William Hynes, a wealthy coal merchant, who moved his family into Everton House and the property formed part of the Historic Merchants District of St. John's. Many of these splendid homes still exist today in Kings Bridge Road, Circular Road, and Rennie's Mill Road around Bannerman Park, the Colonial Building, and Government House. The Hynes's lived in Everton House until 1945. In 1945 the house was put up for sale and H.S. Wilburforce Winsor was the winning bidder at $20,000, he outbid prominent locals Gerald Hynes (son of th previous owner) and Reginald Harvey. Winsor completed an extensive renovation and restoration project on the house, with the scarcity of materials after the 2nd World War it took him 2 years and $60,000 to gather materials and craftsmen to do the job, but the result was fabulous. The Winsor family lived at Everton House until 1988 when the property was sold to Dr. and Mrs. Flynn, the Flynn's moved into the house to raise their 4 children. In 1995 the Flynn's hired Robert Mellin, a local architect, to work on more renovations, including an addition that would almost double the available space in the house. The result was a fabulous blending of old and new, with construction of the addition following the lines and style of the old home. The home was a perfect place to raise a family and also provided and elegant location to host social gatherings. With their children grown, the Flynn's decided to move and the home was purchased by the present owners. Roma and Alistair were involved in the Bed and Breakfast business and immediately recognized the potential of the site for a first class Bed Breakfast Inn. The initial conversion of the original part of the home was completed in May 2003 with each bedroom having it's own ensuite bathroom. The second phase of the conversion is now completed allowing the owners to offer a range of upscale accommodations and also a perfect setting for private dinners, parties, meetings, weddings and receptions.

A favorite pastime for many tourists is taking a boat out among the icebergs. Newfoundland tourism promotes this as an experience like no other. Iceberg Alley is one of the most common routes taken by sightseeing boats because of the countless frozen wonderments. Most of the icebergs seen off the Newfoundland coast floated to that region from Greenland. They travel approximately 7km yearly, which is the fastest moving of any icebergs. Most icebergs around Newfoundland are only about a year old. They split off of glaciers that have existed for more than 15,000 years. After the icebergs break from the glaciers, they melt slowly as they travel south. If they travel far enough out of frigid waters, eventually they melt away completely. Often icebergs have a bluish color. This is from melted water refreezing and filling in crevices that developed in the mother glacier over centuries. When light reflects off of the ice, prism-like qualities give the icebergs a blue color. Visitors from Ontario are common, but Newfoundland has much to offer tourists from other parts of the world. Love of colder climates is a benefit, but it's not necessary to be bundled up all the time. Walking tours on the island of Newfoundland are some of the most beautiful in the world. Trails along the vast coastline vary. Some are perfect for an after dinner stroll, while others are best experienced by seasoned hikers. Newfoundlanders are proud of their culture and history. Artists from every genre have called Newfoundland home over the years and many have left part of themselves for others to enjoy.
