Some excerpts from the website of Albamanjon that might be useful
Selection of photos of the outside of the hotel from different spots, views and charming little corners... In harmony with the natural setting. The Hotel Albamanjon is located in the middle of nature, at the edge of one of the Ruidera lakes and within this unique building that was adopted to make use of the old cultivation land that had attempted to salvage a bit of
flat terrain along the steep incline of the limestone walls of the famous Laguna de San Pedro. This hotel stands out for its windmill, typical of La Mancha, which adorns a corner of the building, and which, like the rest of this edifice, offers a privileged view of the lake. The facade is typical of La Mancha: whitewashed and inlaid with ceramics that recreate hunting scenes. More striking are the colours that finish off the balustrades, which, lined with another type of tile, preside over the railings of the vast windows of the
cafe,
dining room,
terrace and stairways. Yesterday;s flavours. The traditional dishes of the Campo de Montiel region stand out in this small
restaurant of the Albamanjon hotel: brines and
game stews made following yesterday;s most traditional methods and recipes, earthenware products that conserve the flavours of the past, roasts and Quixotic egg sautes, select suckling lamb prepared in stews, adorned with honey or
grilled, vegetable-stuffed
baby goat chops, the ultimate cod or our veal tenderloins prepared as you like... And finally, to round off these succulent delicacies with a sweet hint, a delicious homemade dessert with a sweet wine. The cellar offers the guest designer wines from the hills of the Sierra de Alcaraz, its vineyards atop high flatlands at an altitude of over three thousand meters, making for some very special and distinctive qualities. Wines from the appellations of La Mancha and Valdepenas, as well as from other areas in Spain, are also staples in our
restaurant. The

Just 3 kilometres from the hotel is the famous Cave of Montesinos that Miguel de Cervantes described in his masterpiece; The Ingenious Gentleman of the Mancha;, and the ruins of the Castle of Rochafrida, as well as countless pre-historic settlements. Country house recommended. Recreational activity company. General information on the area. Ossa de Montiel, a small town in the heart of La Mancha and within the historical Campo de Montiel. The site of the adventures of the most famous gentleman in the area, Don Quixote of the Mancha. Located in the west of the Albacete province and at an altitude of 901 metres is an area covering 240.6 square metres of mountainous terrain and more than 15,000 hectares occupied by rosemary, holm oak, savins and junipers. Cereal, the vine, the abundance of small
game and its tourism infrastructure are this area;s primary resources. In the surroundings and within the Lagunas de Ruidera Nature Reserve, the Cave of Montesinos, a must-see for all lovers of Cervantine literature, and the Castle of Rochafrida. Both are points of encounter between history and legend. The municipality of Ruidera is located at the mouth of the Laguna del Rey lake. This small town that was once a village, belonging to the province of Ciudad Real, is located at an altitude of 765 metres above sea level. Its municipal area covers 40.4 kilometres of rippling, rolling and mountainous terrain, with almost no flatlands. Ruidera reached the height of its splendour under the reign of King Charles III, who extended the Order of San Juan and created a Mayorazgo-Infantazgo (Primogeniture-Principality), which became known as a Royal Site. This period saw the construction of the gunpowder factory and the small royal palace, or Palacete Real, which can still be seen today.
The Lagunas de Ruidera are the most extraordinary wetlands in Castilla La Mancha. Located in the valley of the upper Guadiana River, near the towns of Ossa de Montiel and Ruidera, these sixteen lakes that form the Natural Park flow over a 35-kilometre-long riverbed. Connecting them are the streams, waterfalls and underground currents, with a difference in altitude of some 120 metres and a total surface area of 3772 hectares. Un place full of contrasts. We are in one of the most beautiful places in Spain. And it isn;t hard to get here for a weekend getaway, where you;re sure to find peaceful, cool shade amid the blossoming elders and the poplars or pines that line some of the smaller lakes. The Lagunas de Ruidera are not really lagoons, but rather small lakes, as their waters are deep, crystal clear and in motion. There are sixteen in all, forming a wonderful chain, one after the other, set in by small
channels, waterfalls and natural springs. Etched into the travertine limestone rock, they usually form an elliptical or circular shape. Some even resemble fiords. Depending on the local travertine colour, which can be golden, or bluish or greenish grey, these precious lakes might resemble topaz, pearl, sapphire or emerald. In fact, the water is so transparent that the pearly bellies of the carp can be seen from high above. So profound is the peace and
quiet of this setting that you wouldn;t hear the passing of time if you didn;t hear something even better once in a while: a shepherd;s whistle. Victor Serna, Por tierras de la mancha [Through the Lands of the Mancha]. The Natural Park is a refuge and feeding ground for countless seafaring bird species. The predominant landscape of the Natural Park is made up of plant communities typical of the Castilian plateaus and the Mediterranean. As to flowers, more than 800 species have been found here.
