While the beaches of the area are the main attraction, there is so much more to see and do. The town of Wells itself, settled in 1640, is rich in its colonial roots and is known as the Antiques Capital of Maine. Don't miss the many antique shops, Antique Auto Museum, and frequent area auctions. A trip to Wells would not be complete without a visit to the Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm, which offers miles of well maintained trails along salt marshes and estuaries. The Water Crest Cottages Motel are located in Wells, in the heart of the Southern Maine Coast. Wells is just 1 1/2 hours north of Logan Airport in Boston, Massachusetts and 30 minutes south of the Portland Jetport in Portland, Maine. From the North or South, follow the Maine Turnpike (the Maine Turnpike starts after the York, ME tollbooths) to Exit 19 for Wells/Ogunquit. Take a left at the light just beyond the toll booth onto Rt. 109, which will take you to Rt. 1. At the Route 1 traffic light, turn right. The Water Crest is 1/2 mile ahead on your left.
