Founded in 1806, the old coaching-inn became the Hotellerie du Val d'Or in 1962. Firmly anchored to tradition, this charming establishment has been able to evolve over the years, offering its guests ever-increasing comfort and modernity. The latest developments are the creation of a charming terrace, and the renovation of the restaurant and rooms under the direction of Dominique Jayet, owner of the establishment since 2004 and loyal to the Hostellerie du Val d'Or for over 15 years. The chef, creating a harmony of regional cooking and inventive cuisine, will surprise your taste-buds and awaken your senses...
Mercurey owes its name to a temple dedicated to Mercury, the god of commerce. With the slopes behind it and stretching out along the Or valley, which lives up to its name, Mercury is a central location from where the Morvan and the Saone can be seen. The appellation Mercurey also extends to the wines of the two neighbouring villages: Bourgneuf-Val-d'Or and Saint-Martin-sous-Montaigu. The wine region covers more than 600 hectares and produces about 30 premier crus, 24 in Mercurey and 5 in St-Martin-sous-Montaigu. The white wines (accounting for only 5% of the appellation) are an attractive pale gold colour with green reflections. The reds have a deep shimmering ruby robe, with a bouquet of very concentrated red fruit and hints of spices.
Our chef suggests that you discover the gastronomic riches of our region by means of a Culinary stopover or a Discovery of flavours stopping on the way at the Country market cuisine or even the Burgundy menu. Our specialities will delight those gourmets who decide to make the culinary journey with a Presse d'anguilles Silure aux girolles (silurid of pressed eels with chanterelle mushrooms) or a Cochon fermier de Nolay (Nolay farmer’s pork). If you’re coming from Paris or Lyon by motorway A6, take the Chalon nord exit (exit No. 25) and follow the signs for Autun Mercurey (D978). Mercurey is located 11km along this road. The hotel is in the centre of Mercurey on the right. If you’re coming from Beaune via Chagny (north) or Cluny (south), follow the D981 until you come to the Rond point de la Cote Chalonnaise (Cote Chalonnaise roundabout), then exit the roundabout to the west on the D978. We are just 2km along this road.
