Restaurant. The Basilico is a distinguished
restaurant that offers characteristic local dishes and exquisite pizzas baked in a wood-burning oven. An elegant ambience and family atmosphere are combined with prices that are always accessible. From Albergo Italia by a convenient passageway, or from outside, you can directly access the principle entrance in that is next to the piazza where the Church of Saint Frances of Assisi and the General Management of the Banca Popolare of the Materano can be found. The common areas as well as some of the
rooms in the Albergo Italia are stylishly decorated with furnishings and accessories from the Giura Longo family. Wrought
iron beds, chests of drawers,
mirrors, and lamps, all come from the original family residence and today are entrusted to the care of our guests who are considered not only clients but also true friends and to whom we seek every day to devote respect and a true family welcome. Beyond the merit of the structure and its location, the true value of our hotel is found in the quality of our service and courtesy that over the years has produced numerous testimonies of appreciation and gratitude on the part of both our frequent and occasional customers. The Oscar winning Director Mel Gibson and actors Maia Morgenstern and Monica Bellucci chose Albergo Italia for their stay during the shooting of the film The Passion of the Christ. Today the hotel is a point of reference for an entire generation of clients, who demonstrate their fondness for Matera through their stay in our hotel and do not neglect to pass on their appreciation for our hospitality. Here all clients are welcome. Habitual guests return to visit us, finding again the warmth of the family hearth, because our goal and desire is to recreate the hospitality of a typical family atmosphere. Due to the large amount of loyal patrons, we suggest reserving your stay well in advance.

Albergo Italia is headquartered in the Palazzo Giura Longo, which dates back to the XVII century and which the genteel family of the same name has always used as a private residence. In the following century, part of the palazzo was entrusted to a private manager who transformed it into the Albergo Italia, the first of its kind still in existence in Matera. In 1959, the hotel passed to the direct management of the family, and in particular was entrusted to the attention of Rosalia, a distinguished Lady originally from Trento who, a few years before, had married Pietro Giura Longo. Through the incorporation of the private residence in 1996, an additional
15 rooms were added to the core reception area of
32 rooms, bringing the total number of available
rooms in Albergo Italia to 47.
