Guided walking holidays. The hotel was originally a priest's farmhouse constructed in stone and wood at the end of the last century. It is built on to the side of a mountain on a rock outcrop offering spectacular views of the mountains and surrounding countryside, including the Picos de Europa, the Ponga Mountain range and the Sierra del Sueve. In 1995 it was purchased by its present owners Nigel and Joann Burch, who converted it into a small family hotel. Whilst maintaining much of its original character it has a very cosy atmosphere, with all the comforts of a modern hotel. On the ground floor the stables have been converted into a comfortable lounge with an open fire and a small bar for guests use. On the same level is a glass gallery that forms the dining room overlooking the valley and the mountains. On the first floor there is another lounge with a small library and large windows. In total there are 12 bedrooms all with outstanding views. There are 6 doubles in the original stone part of the building and 2 doubles, 2 triples and 2 suites in the new part. All the bedrooms have en suite bathroom, as well as television, telephone and central heating. There is an interenet connection available for guests and the downstairs lounge is a WIFI zone. Enviromental values have a central place in the hotel's philosophy and this helps to the good and friendly atmosphere and the guests well being. The owners and managers of Hotel Posada del Valle are Nigel and Joann Burch and their son and daughter Sebastian and Samantha. Having lived and worked in Spain since 1981 they have an extensive knowledge of the country, the area, the people and their culture. Nigel a graduate horticulturist and Joann a professional chef enjoy looking after you and helping you enjoy your holiday to the most. @Hotel Posada del Valle 2005 |
The restaurant at Hotel Posada del Valle offers excellent imaginative home cooking, with and emphasis on the use of local and organic produce. It is open exclusively for the hotel guests, serving breakfasts and evening meals. Breakfasts consist of natural fruit juice, freshly baked bread and cakes, a selection of cereals, yoghurt, fresh fruit, cheese or cold meats and coffee or a selection of herbal teas. It served from 08.45 to 11.00 hours. For the evening meal there is a set menu which changes daily. Normally there is a salad bar to start, followed by home made soup, then the main course with a vegetarian option, followed by desert or a selection of local speciality cheeses It is best to advise in the morning or at the latest before 17.00 h. if you require the set menu. Local speciality cheeses, cold meats, smoked fish, home-made soups and salads are also available. About 90% of all the products used in the hotel restaurant are certified organic. Dinner is served from 20.30 to 22.00 hours. Some of the products used in the restaurnt come from the hotel farm. The vegetable garden provides a wide range of fresh seasonal vegetables. The apples from the orchard are used to produce a natural apple juice served at breakfast and at certain times of the year we serve Xaldo lamb produced on the farm. This is an Asturian rare breed and the meet is fibrous but tender with less fat and slightly stronger in flavour. Apart from our own production, whenever possible we use small quality local producers.
The North of Spain is famous for its good food. Apart from serving excellent home cooking at Hotel Posada Del Valle, we provide information on the best restaurants in the area. The hotel is in a unique position with two restaurants each with a Michelin star at 2 kilometres from the hotel. The chefs at both restaurants have in the course of their careers won the award Champion Cook of Asturias. There are also good seafood restaurants, in the nearby fishing villages of Ribadesella, Llanes and Tazones. As well as excellent meat and fish the local produce includes an amazing array of pulses, with the famous bean stew or fabada made from an Asturian variety of large butter beans and sausages. Other versions of this dish are made with wild boar and on the coast with clams. There is an excellent selection of specialist cheeses and the region boasts to have one of the largest varieties of specialist cheeses of any area in Europe! In this mountainous region with its excellent pastures, there has historically been farming of goats, sheep and cows. The lack of communication between these traditional mountain communities has given rise to many different ways of making cheese from the different milks, thus producing such a large variety of cheeses. Probably the most famous is the Cabrales cheese, a strong blue cheese from the region of Cabrales. It is possible to visit traditional cheese producers, and the caves where some of these cheeses are stored to mature. At Hotel Posada del Valle we have a selection of some of the best specialist cheeses of the region. The local drink is cider, with its own specific culture. The best places to drink cider is in a cider bar and watch the cider being poured from a height, breaking against the glass so as to introduce a slight sparkle and open its flavour. There is also a cider museum in Nava that pays homage to this drink and the associated culture. Excellent Spanish wines from the different regions are also available in the area.
