If peace of mind, fresh air, pristine nature and breathtaking landscapes is what you are looking for, then there is nothing better than to plan a vacation in the Azores and take advantage of what we have to offer: accommodations in complete harmony with nature. CASA DO CAPITAO is a perfect example of this symbiotic relationship between nature and comfort, all done to make it an unforgettable stay. Come see what we have to offer. Located in the northern part of the Faial Island, in the Cedros parish, CASA DO CAPITAO sits on a charming rural area, an authentic oasis of peace and tranquillity. It encompasses two houses, made of volcanic rock, which remain faithful to the traditional architecture of Faial, and are surrounded by gardens, farming fields, threshing grounds, fruit trees and pastures.

The houses date back to the end of the 19th century, and underwent large renovations. The old exterior appearance was kept while the interiors were renovated in order to offer all the standards of comfort of modern day life. Visitors are greeted by the owner at the main house, where breakfast is served every morning. During breakfast the owner is happy to answer any questions about the island and will share special tips on the sites to visit. For more detailed information, a mini-library with a variety of books about the Azores in different languages is available.  From the house, there are many inviting trails which meander through the green fields of the island offering gorgeous views of the Graciosa, S. Jorge and Pico Islands.

Five spacious double rooms, with private bath, decorated with a country flare but attentive to the details and comfort will make your stay a memorable experience. The gardens are filled with endemic, subtropical and exotic plant species which offer CASA DO CAPITAO a permanent colourful vivacity year round. There are tempting nooks inviting visitors to enjoy nature in total tranquility. When the weather permits, breakfast may be served on the Eira Garden. If so requested, an afternoon tea may be served at the Mirante Garden, where you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Located at the centre of the Azorean archipelago, Faial Island offers lovers of aquatic activities many alternatives ranging from whale and dolphin watching, to diving and sport-fishing. Tours on sail-boats or small whaler boats are another prossibility. These tours start at the Harbour of Horta (17 km from the Casa do Capitao). There are many marked trails inviting you to discover and to enjoy the luxuriant vegetation surrounding the island. Not to be missed is the trail around the Caldeira (protected landscape by Rede Natura 2000), as well as the volcano circuit. Don’t miss the new Interpretation Centre of the Capelinhos Volcano. After a full day of terrestrial or maritime activities, and before returning to CASA DO CAPITAO, make sure that you take a dive in the mild waters of the Atlantic, at one of gorgeous black sandy beaches or in the small rocky bays spread all around the island.
