Wielkopolska Uprising Anniversary. Since 2002 there have been held the annual Wielkopolska Uprising anniversary meetings in the hotel. Apart from the owners and members of the Association of Wielkopolska Uprising Commemoration, there are representatives of state and local authorities that take part in those meetings. In 2003, a plaque that commemorates the events from the beginning of the century was unveiled. This contributed to the realization of the hotel owners goal: To make this place etched in memory not only as a good hotel, but also a place linked with the past of our region. Royal is a traditional hotel that is proud of its rich past and historic importance.The hotel, which dates back to the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, is among Poznan's oldest. At the end of the 19th century at the site of todays hotel there was a distillery manufacturing high quality wines. Later on, a tenement house was erected at the back, which served as a pre-war hotel. According to the industrial certificate from 1929 it was a small hotel in a courtyard. Between 1918 and 1919, the hotel witnessed momentous historic events. The hotel served as the headquarters of the Wielkpolska Uprising Leadership, from where Stanislaw Taczak, Stanislaw Laciski and Bohdan Hulewicz led struggles for liberation. After the 2nd World War the Royal was the first Poznan hotel to be opened. It had experienced many difficulties since. Once it was even renamed Zacisze (Seclusion)! At that time it became a tourist class hotel and an industrial hotel of City Enterprise of Communication. It was not restored to the heirs of the rightful owners until 1992. Todays Royal, renewed and restored, is an entirely modern building of European standard. Owing to efforts made by its new owners, the hotel not only recognises its rich past, but is also recording its new history.
