Some excerpts from the website of Bellavista that might be useful
Good day and welcome! Please allow me to introduce myself I'm Wendy -- island innkeeper,
breakfast chef,
concierge, and today, your
tour guide as I show you around Bellavista Bed
Breakfast. This is our
swimming pool with a large deck and
patio area where you can sunbathe and relax to the sounds of calypso music, chirping birds, and flowing water from the
pool's fountain. (Click on photo to enlarge). I'm still awestruck by this view everyday. It's a dynamic view as you'll see cruise ships, yachts, sailboats, and seaplanes visiting the harbor. With binoculars in hand, you can preview a number of sites on the historical walking
tour from the comfort of your chaise
lounge by the
pool. (Click on photo to enlarge). The
patio area is surrounded by flower boxes, and the hillside behind it features these
terraced tropical
gardens. Here you can stroll along pebbled paths where you'll encounter colorful bougainvillea and hibiscus flowers, fragrant jasmine and plumeria plants, and a diverse array of palms and fruit trees. A hammock, hanging between two trees on the top
terrace, offers a perfectly peaceful place for you to relax and savor the splendor of the scenery below. (Click on photo to enlarge). As we continue, let me tell you a little bit about the villa which lays within the walls of our gated estate. It was built in the late 1930's in simplistic West Indian style and enhanced over the years by a number of creative and well-endowed owners. Reflecting a true Caribbean palette, it is coral-colored with green roofing and white lattice trim. (Click on photo to enlarge). As we explore the interior, notice the high, old-fashioned, slatted wood ceilings along with fancy, colorful woodwork and custom-designed, louvered doors. This is the
living room which is artfully appointed with a marble floor, comfortable sofas, and large
mirrors along the back wall reflecting the harbor view. This
room suitably becomes an open-air, covered
patio area by day as two walls of doors open it to the deck. It's a great haven from which to escape the sun without sacrificing outdoor ambiance while you rest, repose, or read--perhaps from the diverse collection of books in our informal lending library. (Click on photo to enlarge). And this is where you begin your day -- in our
dining room. We serve
breakfast here in this bright and spacious
room surrounded by grand bookcases endowed with the color of sunshine. (Click on photo to enlarge). Our homemade
breakfast is tropically-inspired and features two courses. We begin with sliced fresh fruit--like mango, papaya, and pineapple--and serve mini muffins hot from the oven. Some days we start with our special house recipe Calypso Crunch granola. Our beverage selection includes island roasted
coffee, assorted teas, and frozen fruit frappes. The main course specialties are banana sour cream waffles, ginger pancakes with mango sauce, crispy coated strawberry french toast, ham and swiss omelet rolls, spinach quiche with red peppers and feta, mini parmesan artichoke casseroles, and cheese blintz
breakfast cheesecake. We gladly accommodate vegetarians and guests on special diets. And our
tour wouldn't be complete without introducing you to my guest relations staff. Latt is a sweet white cat with cinnamon markings. Her schedule is a bit unpredictable but she will occasionally make appearances for guests who fancy felines. Mocha is our new English Springer Spaniel puppy who is a natural at graciously greeting guests. She will gladly offer consolation to those who miss their dogs back home. And that's it (in a brief pictorial representation)! You can, of course, explore more thoroughly when you come to visit

Your visit to St. Thomas presents many possibilities for excursions, exploration, and pure enjoyment! We've been fortunate to experience so much of what our island has to offer and are delighted to make suggestions. A Day at Magen's Bay This premiere beach is nearby on the island's northside. You can relax in a
lounge chair or enjoy a variety of watersports activities. The beach
bar offers frozen tropical
drinks, and the neighboring concession stand serves
lunch and light snacks. There is also a bountiful bathing suit boutique. The beach is nearly a mile long and is ideal for walking and jogging. Savor Sapphire Beach This small beach on the East End is one of the prettiest on the island, and the water truly reflects its name. It is popular for
windsurfing -- equipment and lessons are available. You can enjoy live entertainment and
volleyball tournaments at the beach
party on Sunday. Find Fish Colorful schools of tropical fish and sensational underwater seascapes are the highlight of Coki Beach. It is a perfect place for snorkeling, and a dive
shop on the beach offers SCUBA for beginners and certified divers. If you prefer to stay dry, the adjoining marine park, Coral World, has an underwater observatory tower and aquarium exhibits. And if catching fish was what you had in mind, there is a fine fleet of sportfishing boats based in Red Hook offering full and half-day charters. Carefree Cruising A variety of sailboats and powerboats are available if you would like to spend a day on the water visiting
quiet cays and secluded beaches. Most chartered excursions include snorkeling stops and
lunch. The sunset
cocktail cruises are a lovely way to end the day. View from Paradise Point. Dare to Drive If you're the adventurous type, a rental jeep provides the freedom and flexibility to explore our island to the fullest. Remember to drive on the left! On your sightseeing adventures, be sure to visit the scenic overlooks at Drake's Seat and Paradise Point. Sojourn on St. John A day
trip to St. John is a remarkably rewarding experience. Ferries depart regularly from the nearby Charlotte Amalie waterfront and from Red Hook on the island's East End. The exquisite National Park beaches are easily accessible via safari bus shuttles. At picturesque Trunk Bay, you can snorkel along a unique underwater trail. Hiking trails also abound throughout the National Park. The popular Reef Bay Hike visits sugar mill ruins and prehistoric petroglyph carvings. The
Baths at Virgin Gorda. Visit Virgin Gorda If you enjoy island hopping, Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands is another excursion possibility. The
Baths at Virgin Gorda are a spectacular site. Huge boulders on the beach form
pools, grottos, and caverns for swimming, hiking, and climbing. Ferries and charter boats provide
trips to the B.V.I.-just remember to bring your passport or birth certificate. Highlighting History If you wish to learn more about the colorful history of our island, historical walking
tours are offered daily. They typically begin at the Fort Christian Museum and proceed through the elegant historic neighborhoods above Charlotte Amalie. You will get a chance to
tour restored residences and other sites while learning about Caribbean architecture, tropical flora, island history, and local lore. Tropical Tee Off If you are a
golf fanatic, we have a challenging tropical course on the island. It features a series of scenic holes overlooking the Atlantic surf. Note that tee times can only be arranged 48 hours in advance and rental clubs are available. Main Street in Charlotte Amalie. Superlative Shopping Charlotte Amalie is the renowned shopping mecca of the Caribbean. Here you will find discount prices on jewelry, watches, liquor, and perfume. Everything is duty-free with no sales tax. Also, you can view intriguing and reasonably priced art at a gamut of galleries on the island. Delectable Dining Dining on the island is a delightful treat. There are a number of fine dining
restaurants as well as casual cafs with specialties ranging from fresh seafood and continental
cuisine to eclectic and local fare. We have a collection of menus for you to peruse and, fortunately, many of your best options are only minutes away. We hope these suggestions are helpful in your vacation planning. Our list is not comprehensive -- it simply presents our favorite island activities as former visitors and now as residents. If there is some other activity in which you are interested, we would be delighted to provide information on it as well. Also, please let us know if you would like assistance in preparing an itinerary or making arrangements.
