Away from the Crowd We thoroughly enjoyed our peaceful and relaxing holiday at the Sea-U Guest House in Bathsheba. The rooms were simple and comfortable with no TV, radio or clock it was pure bliss to be away from all the technology back at home in the U K. Relaxing in a hammock, reading a book, listening to the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The wind in the palm trees and to watch the green monkeys was wonderful. Following a 2 hour breakfast catching up with other guests we were able to visit the east and north coasts of the island that remain undeveloped and offered the opportunity to explore hidden treasures such as the northern coves, the wildlife park and tropical gardens. In the evenings food and entertainment were superb both at the Sea-U and the local restaurants. All this was only possible due to the efforts of Uschi and her team at the Sea-U guest house and we are already looking forward to returning next year. Essex, England (March 2007). Home in Paradise Sea-U Guest House is a gem off the beaten track. The east coast of Barbados is more raw and natural than the west and south. The ocean waves are far stronger, so not the place to go if swimming is what you are after. But the beach is perfect for long walks, and the townspeople of Bathsheba are very friendly (but that's true for the rest of Barbados too). Our room was spacious and comfortable, and was equipped with all necessary amenities. The room, as well as the rest of the hotel, was clean and well-maintained. There are spectacular views of the Atlantic, as well as the occasional green monkey in the surrounding trees. Sea-U represents excellent value for the money. In addition to breakfast, dinner is served most evenings. The fixed menu consists of simple but tasty food, served in a convivial atmosphere. Although it may sound cliche, the best thing about Sea-U are the people. The owner, Uschi, and all of her staff are most friendly and helpful, and make the place feel more like home than a hotel. Michael, Montreal, Canada (Dec 2006). Sea-U Guest House - A tiny gem in Barbados If you want peace and quiet along with a spectacular view, Sea-U Guest House is the place to stay in Barbados. The rooms are simple, but clean and comfortable. The view and breeze from the front porch make it difficult to ever leave the guest house. The staff are friendly and helpful. It is only a short drive to some beautiful and deserted beaches. Dining at Sea-U is wonderful, both the setting and the food. A car is a must so that you can easily explore the island. If you need lots of restaurant choices, exciting nightlife and television in your room, then Sea-U is not the place for you; however, if truly getting away from it all and experiencing the real Barbados, then Sea-U is the place to go. Madeline, Virginia, USA (July 2006). Laid back Sea-U If you are an independent traveller that wants to get away from it all to peaceful, well serviced accommodation run by friendly and relaxed staff Sea-U! is the place to go. The views across the East Coast are amazing. You are 10 minutes walk from the legendry Soup Bowl and five mins from Parlours a real surfers paradise. If you want to explore the rest of the island a hire car is a must unless your happy riding the buses. It was great how you could chose to eat at Sea-U! in the open air dining area or make you own arrangements to eat out and the honesty bar was well used! Definitely a great place to go on honeymoon. Tara, Cornwall, UK (June 2006). Glorious Sea-U Guesthouse managed to achieve a wonderful balance between luxury and informality. No cheap or tacky tourist trap this, but nor was it too glitzy or posh - no golf courses or marble swimming pools. We almost felt as if we were personal guests of Uschi, although all the comforts and luxuries of a good hotel were there. The whole atmosphere was wonderfully low key and relaxing and we felt completely at ease. We found Sea-U to be beautiful, comfortable, peaceful and welcoming. Will, Edinburgh, Scotland (May 2006). Simply the best Our week at the Sea-U was simply the best. I work in the travel industry and I can honestly say this is one of the few holidays I have experienced that lived up to my expectations. The Sea-U created the perfect environment for us, The staff were welcoming and friendly, the banana crumble, delightful! I hope we will stay with you again one day. Ron Suzy, London, UK (June 2004). Forget about time and worries The rooms are open to the wonderful breezes, never hot. The flowers are beautiful as well as the people who make your vacation so wonderful. The gardener Seacat was especially nice to us and even opened coconuts for us to sample. And guess what you never mind that there is no TV or phones. There are great restaurants nearby and Uschi prepares delicious food for you in an outdoor setting. Tide pools nearby beckon you to sit in the warm water and enjoy the fish life that abounds around you. At night you can go to sleep listening to the pounding of the waves against the rocks below you. This is truly paradise. I highly recommend this for a great vacation and a place to forget about time and worries. Nancy, North Carolina, USA (March 2004). Serendipity Sea-U looked lovely on the website but the camera doesn't do justice to the breathtaking views over the Atlantic Ocean. The air has to be medicinal; it is so clean and fresh, the atmosphere is extremely relaxed, and the rooms are simple but very romantic. Our fellow guests were extremely pleasant people from all over the world who are there to relax and savor the natural beauty of the East Coast. Wonderful hostess too. This is not a place for everyone - if you like floral bedspreads and need to be entertained every minute of the day, don't come! Best Feature? Serenity and romance. Justin, Tunbridge Wells, UK (Jan 2003). It was like a dream Perched on the side of a hill surrounded by lush vegetation and palm trees. Lying in a hammock with eyes closed. The endless roar of the surf at the bottom of the hill and the omnipresent Atlantic breeze rustling the trees. Through the leaves, the sun. Breakfast and dinner is served outside, under cover and screened from the wind. Eating my eggs I see a Green Monkey in a tree. A Lesser Antillean Bullfinch peeks his head under the linen covering the freshly baked coconut and banana bread. The resident cat wanders on the deck. Seacat, one of the original Bathsheba surfers, works as the gardener. He is friendly, smiling and talkative. I hear the local gossip. Later in the afternoon he cracks open a coconut for me. I drink the milk and eat the jelly. Introductions are made at dinner. North America and Europe are represented. The affairs of the world are discussed, as are trivial matters and the peccadilloes of our respective politicians. We are satiated, but talk goes on. We are asked to turn out the lights when we retire. The house is constructed of wood, weathering nicely from the ocean breeze. Adjustable wood jalousies allow cross ventilation to penetrate the rooms. A ceiling fan ensures nighttime comfort. A mosquito net covers the bed, although few bugs are apparent. The nearby restaurants are all good. From the storied Atlantis Hotel to the more sophisticated Round House, none were disappointing. The beach is spectacular. Giant rocks litter the shoreline, eroded at the bottom by the constant wave action. At low tide the relentless surf backs off to reveal the shoreline reef and sand bottomed tidal pools are exposed for soaking and splashing. But all good things must come to an end. Scott, Fonthill, ON, Canada (Feb 2003). Peace and quiet We did enjoy our stay at Sea-U. Our supper guests, who live in Barbados, were also impressed with the peace and quiet and the lovely view. We deeply appreciate all the arrangements Uschi made for us. Everything was exactly as promised. Philip Wanda, KS, USA (Nov 2002).
