Holmberg House, a registered historic inn, is located in the DeBarr Historic District, the only historic district in Norman listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Nearby Historic Campus Corner is a small commercial district located next door to Holmberg House Bed Breakfast. Filled with retail stores and restaurants, the Corner provides dining and shopping experiences for all. Recapture the feeling of those early academic years by staying across the street from the University of Oklahoma. We are regaled by many as the best front porch in Norman, so, take some time to watch the world go by on our porch swing or join in as thousands of OU fans come to town for those famous OU football weekends (we are literally walking distance to all of OU's sporting events). The University of Oklahoma is also the site of the new Oklahoma Museum of Natural History. Visitors come from around the world to see one of the most fascinating collections of dinosaur artifacts. We are less than a mile from the front door of the museum. The OU campus, recently a winner for its landscaping, is also worth the visit. It is great place to walk, jog, or ride a bike. Holmberg House is also a popular location for those visiting the University or any location in central Oklahoma.

Holmberg House was built in 1914 by Professor Fredrik Holmberg and his wife Signy. Holmberg was the first dean of the University of Oklahoma's College of Fine Arts and also was the first to conduct a symphony orchestra in Oklahoma. The Holmbergs and their two children Louise and Linne, lived on DeBarr Street until the early 1940's when the residence was purchased by Sam and Leota Hale. Sam and Leota Hale arrived in Norman in 1929 and in 1933 opened Hales Department Store. The store was one of Norman's finest and was located at 126 E. Main Street until it closed in 1980 -- a total of 47 years. The Hales had two children -- Phyllis Hale Logan and Sam Hale, Jr. The Hale family lived in the house until 1993 when the residence was bought and renovated by Richard Divelbis and his wife, Jo Meacham, to create a bed breakfast. Today, the new inkeepers, Steve and Nova McIlhaney, hope to establish a new tradition in the house that has been part of Norman's history for so long.
