Chosen by well known travel writer, Herb Phillips for an article he wrote for The Los Angeles Times, The Corners is the Best B and B in the World. Honored by AAA with their four diamond rating for 9 consecutive years. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Corners mourns the passing of Bettye Whitney. Joe and Macy will continue the family tradition of southern hospitality and charm as started by Bettye and Cliff in 1985. How to Find Us From East or West take Exit 1A (Washington St.) off of I-20 (at the Mississippi River Bridge). Go toward downtown Vicksburg for 2 1/4 miles to Klein St. (you will turn left at a red brick church. Our entrance is 1/2 block on the right.) or Call1.800.444.7421. We considered and contacted several other B B's before deciding on the Corners. We drove by at least two others and fell in love with the Corners. The setting itself just suited us for its casual but beautiful landscaping--more natural beauty rather than totally manicured and over groomed.. The furnishings of the house were way beyond our expectations and my wife is a docent in a famous historical home that specializes in decorative arts. Macy and Joe the owners were helpful and did a remarkable job of making us feel like close and valued family members. The morning history tour after a great breakfast was one of the most informative I've ever experienced. Macy KNOWS the history of this house. She has done extensive research using a wide variety of resources, including interviews with old timers. Our breakfast was one of my personal favorites, egg benedict. It was accompanied by a fruit dish, overall a quite healthy breakfast and just the right amount. We'll stay at the Corners again the next time we're in. History A true Southern Mansion with original parterre gardens and a view of the Mississippi. Located in Historic Garden District. It is only fitting that this warm and inviting home, The Corners, is today the setting for many weddings and gala bridal parties. It was built as a wedding gift by John A. Klein for his daughter, Susan, and her husband Isaac Bonham when they married in 1872. The great niece of Susan Klein Bonham, the bride honored by a wedding gift of The Corners, recently presented us with the 130 year old wedding gown and bible of the bride and groom of 1872. The floor plan for The Corners was modeled after the family estate, Cedar Grove, which stands proudly across the street. Bettye and Cliff Whitney bought The Corners in 1985 and transformed the property into the beautiful setting that exists today. Now, their son in law and daughter, Joe Trahan and Macy Whitney, are the Innkeepers. We look forward to greeting you on the verandah with a warm welcome and a cool drink! Cliff and Bettye Whitney. Built to overlook the majestic Mississippi River, the home today is a popular bed and breakfast inn. It boasts fifteen bedrooms and two suites. The first floor of the mansion affords comfortable common areas for guests to enjoy including a large double parlor, morning room and gallery. The hand pierced columns surrounding the front gallery are unique to Vicksburg and are known in architectural circles as Vicksburg Columns. Built during the period of Reconstruction, the home reflects several architectural styles: Italianate, Classic Revival, and from the front the style of a Southern Louisiana Raised Cottage with its seventy foot elevated gallery. A wonderful vantage point for viewing sunsets over the. Today the Joe and Macy still find excitement in their home, The Corners. We strive to pass this feeling on to our guests, many of whom have returned again and again for another stay.

God I loved it over there so much I could live there. Tony and Chris www.silkroadmotorcycletours.com. Sorry to read about the passing of Ms Bettye Whitney. My husband and I met her a few years ago. We stayed at The Corners as part of an anniversary trip to Vicksburg. Ms Bettye was quite an elegant lady and charming host; we will never forget her, nor our stay at “The Corners.” We love Vicksburg.. and it's history!! We have been several times and we have also been bring our three children to walk through history since they were just babies. I believe my oldest (now 13) was only 15-16 months old when we brought him the first time through the military park and my now 12 year old was a baby!! When my daughter (now almost 10) was about 2 or 3, we carried them for a two-day trip through the park. They enjoyed re-enacting the battles with the tour tape and of chorse I took lots of photos!! We have since carried them again! but Al and I haven't had another opportunity to come by ourselves since 2002 and hope to make it this time! I am a free-lance journalist and the last time we came a wrote several stories on Vicksburg and did a special feature on The Corners for The Mississippi Press, a daily newspaper out of Pascagoula (Jackson County). It filled up the entire Features Section that Sunday! Al and Yvette Hillman, Lucedale, Mississippi. I'm truly sorry to hear of Mrs. Whitney's passing. My family had reserved The Corners BB the weekend that Katrina hit. We were coming in from all over the country and had to cancel due to the unavailability of gas to get us there and no power at The Corners. My husband and I along with his parents had the pleasure of staying for a weekend to make arrangements while Mrs. Whitney was still getting around really well. She was a lovely lady with many funny stories that she shared with us over breakfast. We're going to get the reunion plans up and going again. I was checking the site to make sure you were still open. We look forward to making the arrangements with you again soon. We˘re looking at something in the spring of 2009 before it gets too hot. We just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at your beautiful place. It was a lot of fun, and you were very gracious. Since we got back, I read a novel set during the battle of Vicksburg, and it was fun to read about places that we had seen.
