Fljotstunga has been a tourist farm for more than 30 years. The farm offers a variety in accommodation for the convenience of all. Facilities offered at the farm: *Made up beds in 3 dbl/twin rooms or a sleeping bag accommodation *Breakfast *Other meals upon request *Living room with library *Small cabins with kitchen facilities. The cabin situated above the farm house sleeps 3-4 persons. It has kitchen facilities and bathroom. Situated beneath the farmhouse: * Hlio: 12 m2 beds for 2-3 pers., WC * Holl: 15 m2, beds for 4 pers., WC * A cabin with a shower * Hamar: 15 m2, beds for 4 pers., WC. * Holl: A dining/ living room for up to 24 persons * WC and a shower for campers
The area around Fljotstunga is very beautiful and offers endless possibilities for walking, riding and driving. Among interesting places are the Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfall, the mountain Strutur, the glaciers Eiriksjokull, Ok and Langjokull (skidoo tours), the moor Arnarvatnsheioi with several fishing lakes and the lava Hallmundarhraun with the large caves Surtshellir and Viogelmir. The saga sites Gilsbakki and Reykholt are nearby. Also in the vicinity: Swimming pool, tourist shop, golf - 10 km. Hores rent, handcraft - 10 km Langjokull: Skiing and skidoo tours - 40 km. Homestead of 13th century Saga writer Snorri Sturluson - 25 km. The nearest village - 63
About two km from the farm is the cave Viogelmir. Its 1585 metres make it one of the longest caves in Iceland and in volume (148.000m3) one of the largest lava caves in the world. Viking age jewelery was found there recently. The cave is closed and is only to be visited with guide. The farmers at Fljotstunga arrange tours with an experienced guide.. Short tours, 1 hour: Min: 4 persons Max: 15 persons Age limit: 8 years. Long tours, 3-4 hours: Min: 3 persons Max: 8 persons Age limit: 13 years. The cave is partly rough and warm clothes, good walking boots and gloves are recommended. Helmets and light bulbs are included in the guiding. Please be aware that Vidgelmir is a preserved cave and that no one is allowed to enter it without permission and guidance.
