room finds a successful climax tucked away on the top floor of Highlawn's Carriage House restoration. An oversized Victorian
room with a high peaked ceiling and exposed beams. it's expansive, yet intimate.

Furniture is attractive and comfortable, and a custom-crafted corner cupboard hides a color
TV, VCR and selection of
videos. The original cedar siding wraps the main inn's carriage house in a warm red glow. This treasure for two is affordable at $199 per night. Aunt Pearl's became home to Pearl Lawyer and her family in 1928. She lived there happily among her flowers until her death in 1987. Follow path lights down the walk from Highlawn to Aunt Pearl's, a charming cottage with four additional Victorian
guest rooms. A tiny pantry in the rear is always open for serve-yourself
tea,
coffee and the famed Berkeley Springs mineral water. In the tradition of Highlawn, flowers are everywhere including
gardens around the cottage dedicated to the memory of the historic Aunt Pearl who so loved her blossoms. Step down into a love nest worthy of the name. Private entrance and porch, dormer ceiling, heart-framed queen-size bed, and Victorian loveseat conspire to romance. Contemporary

Rooms #3 and #4 share Aunt Pearl's front porch with a swing overlooking one of the town's most elaborate summer cottages. Pearl's original parlor has an antebellum New Orleans flavor, original fireplace, queen-size white

movies. A romantic stained glass rose window decorates the lace-draped private

The Bathkeeper's Quarters (circa 1900): More than a century after George Washington selected the adjacent lots for his summer residence, local inventor and builder, Henry Harrison Tip Hunter built his own home on the hill above town. Hunter was a splendid character claiming to his credit duty as a Confederate spy, years as the bathkeeper at the Springs, original prospector of the town's world famous glass sand, and architect and builder of some of the finest buildings in Berkeley Springs. The best of past and present, privacy and luxurious services for one couple or two in a turn-of-the-century home, overlooking the historic warm springs and town of
Bath. Quarter's guests stroll around the block for innkeeper Sandra Kauffman's celebrated gourmet
breakfasts, served in the Victorian elegance of Highlawn Inn's

Bath, the name given this retreat favored by our first president (mountain air, warm springs, nearby antique centers make Berkeley Springs a favorite getaway today). Private
baths are charmingly coordinated to each of six comfortable and tastefully decorated

garden. In the parlor, where a fire burns in chilly weather,

Also worth a visit is the Highlawn Inn, a marvelous creaky 1897 Victorian with a wraparound porch and a commanding view of the town. Innkeeper Sandra Kauffman also offers catered

A latter-day immigrant from Northern Virginia to Berkeley Springs, she polished an 1897 clapboard to a high luster and opened its doors as the historic Highlawn Inn. Its six

room Victorian built in the late 1890s has more charm than it knows what to do with. Sandy and Tim do all the cooking, leading you to think they were professional gourmet chefs in their former lives. Following

Our choice was the Highlawn Inn, a rambling 1897 Victorian perched on a steep hillside overlooking the town. The Highlawn has all the charm one would expect, plus many amenities not often found in bbs. We went back to Highlawn to enjoy the spring water in our own private
whirlpool tub. After a good night's sleep, we were treated to one of Kauffman's scrumptious
