The Hotel Milleluci is located just 5 minutes drive from the historical center of Aosta. The City of Aosta was founded by the Romans in 25 BC, and was initially named Augusta Praetoria, in honor of the emperor Augustus, following the Roman victory over the Salassi, the previous inhabitants of the valley. Aosta;s rectangular perimeter is protected by defensive walls, with access through four gateways. Heading down from the Hotel Milleluci towards the town, the first monument you will come across is the Augustan Arch, constructed in 25 BC to commemorate the victory of the Roman troops, and now considered the city;s signature monument. Proceeding towards via Sant;Anselmo, you may take time to appreciate some of the following: the collegiate church of Sant;Orso; the small, deconsecrated church of San Lorenzo; the Porta Praetoria; the Tour Fromage; the Roman Theater and Amphitheater; the Torre del Lebbroso; Bramafan Castle. The Sant;Orso Fair. As has been customary for over a thousand years, during the Sant;Orso Fair on the 30th and 31st of January, the streets of Aosta;s historical center are taken over by countless artists and artisans from all over the Aosta Valley, who gather here to exhibit their locally-crafted wood carvings, wrought ironwork and earthenware. This event now attracts millions of visitors from all over Italy, France and Switzerland, and Aosta is literally invaded by tourists for the duration of the fair. On the night of the 30th, the streets of the center are illuminated and a vigil or is held, to the sound of traditional folk music. Better still, an array of local dishes is laid on for everyone to enjoy. It all adds up to an unmissable night! Ski resorts. The ski season in the Aosta Valley lasts from November to April, and there is excellent glacier skiing to be had during the summer. With mile after mile of pistes, extending so far that they actually link up with pistes in Switzerland and France, the Aosta Valley gives you the freedom to practise downhill, cross-country, Alpine, and telemark skiing, as well as snowboarding and carving. Whatever you decide, wherever you turn, you will enveloped by incomparably beautiful scenery. In warm weather, guests at the Hotel Milleluci are invited to let themselves be seduced by the sun glinting around the edges of the swimming pool; which has been designed to resemble an Alpine lake; as they contemplate the awe-inspiring panorama of the mountains and the valley below.
