The Hotel Milleluci is located just 5 minutes drive from the historical center of Aosta. The City of Aosta was founded by the Romans in 25 BC, and was initially named Augusta Praetoria, in honor of the emperor Augustus, following the Roman victory over the Salassi, the previous inhabitants of the valley. Aosta;s rectangular perimeter is protected by defensive walls, with access through four gateways. As has been customary for over a thousand years, during the Sant;Orso Fair on the 30th and 31st of January, the streets of Aosta;s historical center are taken over by countless artists and artisans from all over the Aosta Valley, who gather here to exhibit their locally-crafted wood carvings, wrought ironwork and earthenware. This event now attracts millions of visitors from all over Italy, France and Switzerland, and Aosta is literally invaded by tourists for the duration of the fair. On the night of the 30th, the streets of the center are illuminated and a vigil or is held, to the sound of traditional folk music. The ski season in the Aosta Valley lasts from November to April, and there is excellent glacier skiing to be had during the summer.
