Barbara and Toru Nagasawa arrived in Sacromonte around the same time in the early 70's. He came from Japan to learn flamenco guitar, she from Germany to paint and collect antiques. Very soon their lives were intertwined, as it were. After a couple of years of bohemian living in Spain they returned to the real world in Germany where they mounted a successful business restoring (Toru) and painting (Barbara) the local rustic Bavarian antique furniture. They never forgot Sacromonte, however, and were able to return here a few years ago to make their permanent home. These days their lifestyle revolves around Toru's building projects, Barbara´s art and their guests. Between the two they speak English, Spanish, Japanese and German (Bavarian according to Barbara!)
The El Lunar guest house is a totally new installation located in Granada's Sacromonte Gypsy quarter with its renowned flamenco music shows in caves (Zambras), adjacent to the historic Albaicin neighborhood and directly opposite the Alhambra Moorish palace and fortifications, with sensational views thereof. The house is beautifully finished in evocative local style, fully equipped for gracious holiday living. It sleeps 2-4 people and includes a patio and a panoramic terrace for sunbathing or simply enjoying the views of La Alhambra..

Casa El Lunar in Sacromonte with La Alhambra in the background. The spacious terrace at the left is a favorite spot for daytime sunning and nighttime moonwatching.
El Sacromonte y La Zambra. Sacromonte, a privileged, sunny, cave-riddled hillside at the eastern edge of Granada, above the Rio Darro and opposite the Alhambra, was traditionally this city's Gypsy quarter. Nowadays most of the caves have been bought by foreign visitors for holiday homes and the most of the Gypsies have moved to comfortable flats in the city. But by night, when the guitars start to sound and the castanets to castanear the talented Gypsies return to Sacromonte to stage their Zambra flamenco shows. The Sacromonte Gypsy quarter meanders down its hill opposite the Alhambra. The entrance to one of Sacromonte's most famous Zambra caves, that of Maria La Canastera, which is now run by her son, Enrique, and where her granddaughter still dances.. The interior of the Zambra of Maria La Canastera with its mementos of almost 100 years of flamenco performances. The historic Zambra of Manolo Amaya, one of Sacromonte's first.
