My wife and I, who have lived in Spain and travel there often, stayed in the coastal town of Nerja (near Malaga) last year during May. We chose Nerja having driven through the town the previous year and liked what we saw. Nerja is a coastal resort town minus the high rise hotels; it's somewhat quieter, has character and is an interesting mix of Spanish and British influences. I suspect there is a higher percentage of full time British residents in Nerja than other coastal towns. We found our apartment (Casa Charlotte) on the internet, and were impressed by its comprehensive web site that offered all the information needed to make a decision. Casa Charlotte is located in Nerja within walking distance to beach, restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. You'll need a car to see the famous Nerja Caves and local villages. Casa Charlotte is a traditional Spanish home converted into 3 apartments (we stayed on the ground floor). It's on a typical Spanish back street among the Spanish residents. It has a more Spanish feel that other parts of the town. Casa Charlotte is newly renovated with everything one needs for a comfortable stay. Lot's of space and quality furnishings. The kitchen is large, and unusually well equipped. The owner has created a really nice rooftop garden and place to sit and enjoy the town from a roof top perspective. Of all of the things that makes Casa Charlotte special, the owner's personal attention sets it apart from a typical apartment arrangement. Frans is Belgian, speaks 4 or 5 languages including English. He meets his guests upon arrival, helps them get settled, answers all their questions, gives a quick tour around the nearby streets. We researched the apartment offerings in Nerja, and there are many. Of the apartments we considered, we chose Casa Charlotte because of its character and value. This apartment was found to be suitable for myself who is confined to a wheelchair the following points should be noted: Door into apt. 86cms. wide. Most electrical plugs and lights easily reached from wheelchair. Bathroom: Door 80cms. wide and opens out. Great Apartment in Nerja, Spain We just got back from three weeks in Spain and are still in a glow from all the wonderful memories (well, a few not-so-wonderful). But the highlight of our trip was a week at Casa Charlotte in Nerja on the south coast of Spain. The three apartments are roomy, modern, clean, have great kitchen area, all the amenities and located in a charming house on a cobblestone residential street in the heart of downtown Nerja. This is a real Spanish neighborhood, with the bakery, grocery, cafes, and everything you need just a few minutes away - not to mention the beautiful Nerja beaches. Right next door is El Chispa, a great little seafood place mentioned in Rick's Spain and Portugal! Our hosts, Frans and Nuttee, looked after us like their own family, even giving us a personal walking tour of the town. Nerja is a popular European tourist town but has not been spoiled by the high rise mania of most of the Costa del Sol. Casa Charlotte is a real beauty and a super home away from home. We spent 4 weeks in Nerja in April/May 2008, staying in the first floor unit at Casa Charlotte. We loved Nerja. A little less touristy and everything within walking distance of our accomodation. One definitely got the feel of Spain. Casa Charlotte felt like home away from home and Frans and Nuttee were excellent hosts (we consider them friend now)providing us with a wealth of information re places to eat, sight seeing, transportation, shopping, etc. The accomodation was excellent. Spotlessly clean and exceptionally well equipped. You can believe everything they state on their website. We have just returned from a fabulous 5 week trip to Spain and we must say that our stay in Nerja at the Casa Charlotte was exceptional. We wanted to feel the real Spanish way of living and our week at Casa Charlotte made us feel as if we were one of the local people. The apartment was one of the cleanest and well provided apartments we have ever stayed in. Nuttee makes sure that every inch of the apartment is clean and spotless and that the kitchen is equipped with everything one would want to even cook a gourmet meal. Frans is extremely friendly and made us feel at home the moment we arrived. We loved Casa Charlotte so much that we have rented one of the apartments for two months next year knowing that we will be very happy staying there. My wife and I have had a very pleasant month in Nerja (the warmest place in Spain in wintermonths) We rented in january 2008 one of the apartments which are managed by Frans Tijtgat of www.casacharlotte.com Frans is a multi-lingual Belgian. Beste Frans, na onze reservatie voor volgend jaar juli, kwamen al de herinneringen aan ons verblijf in Casa Charlotte weer boven. Niet dat dit moeite kostte, we spreken er nog veel over. Onlangs hebben we onze foto's nog eens bekeken en we wensten dat het weer juli was. Het appartement op de bovenste verdieping is ideaal voor ons twee, en de foto's op uw website tonen helemaal hoe het er van binnen uit ziet, en hoe groot het terras wel is. Geen trucage, geen vergrotend effect. Komt daar nog bij dat we konden beschikken over een wasmachine en een droogkast, strandgerief, een reeks boeken in verschillende talen, veel klassieke radioposten, en onze vakantie kon niet meer stuk. We zullen volgend jaar veel minder in onze valiezen hebben! Ook Nerja is ons heel erg bevallen, Casa Charlotte ligt in een rustig gedeelte, en toch maar twee straten van het strand, en twee andere straten naar het centrum waar van alles te vinden en te beleven is. Added: October 1, 2007. Name: Erik Jacqueline From: Westmalle - Belgium. In augustus en september 2007 brachten mijn vrouw Jacqueline en ik 3 fantastische weken door in Casa Charlotte. Omdat ik rolstoelgebruiker (elektrische rolstoel) ben, hadden we op voorhand de nodige research gedaan op Internet en na gesprekken met Frans zelf besloten we om naar Casa Charlotte te komen. We hadden ons geen betere verblijfplaats en gastheer en gastvrouw kunnen voorstellen. De toegankelijkheid van het appartement was optimaal. Mijn rolstoel is 70 cm breed en 115 cm lang en toch had ik overal voldoende draai- en beweegruimte. Omdat we een tillift (stalen verpleegster) gebruiken, had Frans het bed verhoogd zodat er voldoende ruimte onder was. De badkamer is niet heel groot, maar ik had voldoende ruimte om te draaien en ook de wastafel stond op een perfecte hoogte. Alles wat we nodig hadden was aanwezig en was dat niet zo geweest, dan hadden Frans en Nuttee er zeker voor gezorgd. Geen enkele moeite was hen te veel en ze deden hun uiterste best om het ons zoveel mogelijk naar onze zin te maken. Dankzij het appartement en de goede zorgen van Frans en Nuttee hebben we een schitterende vakantie gehad. We willen hen nogmaals daarvoor bedanken en we weten nu al dat we zeker nog eens terug naar Casa Charlotte komen. Because Im a wheelchair user (electric wheelchair) we had done the necessary research beforehand on the Internet and after speaking with Frans himself, we decided to come to Casa Charlotte. We couldnt have imagined a better place to stay and a more welcoming host and hostess. The accessibility of the apartment was optimal. My wheelchair is 70 cm wide and...
