Some excerpts from the website of City Hotel that might be useful
Frequently Asked Questions. Q How far is City Hotel from Thessaloniki's
airport or train station? A City Hotel is located downtown Thessaloniki, right in the heart of the financial and
business commerce district. Thessaloniki's
airport Macedonia is 16 Km (10 miles) to the South, or about a 35' drive (50' under heavy traffic). Thessaloniki's train station is less than 2 Km (1+ mile) away, and under normal circumstances, it's only a 10' ride. However, during rush hour, it may take as much as 20'. There are public buses that can take you to (or bring you from) the train station; bus stops are right across the street from the hotel. Q Can I connect to the
internet from my
room? A Yes you can connect to the
Internet through
wireless connection. Also there are extra
telephone (plain RJ11 POTS and RJ45
ISDN) jacks in your
room to connect through dialup from your laptop. However, you should make arrangements with your ISP for roaming capabilities of your dialup account. If your ISP does not support worldwide roaming, you may either contact one of the various Greek ISPs to obtain a short-term account (you will find some links to their websites on our links page), or just visit any of the numerous
internet cafes around the city. There are actually a couple of those within walking distance from the hotel. Q What are the regular check-in and check-out times? A Check-in is at 14:00 and check-out is at 12:00 noon. However, for our guest who will be making their reservation from our website, we will extend the check-out time till 16:00 for their convenience! As always, if you leave Thessaloniki on a late flight, we will be happy to keep your luggage in storage, at no extra charge! Remeber that Greece is on the GMT +2 Hours Time Zone, as is Cairo and Helsinki. Q Are pets welcome in the hotel? A Your small friends (under 5 kilos or 11 pounds) are more than welcome to be our guests, as long as they do not disturb other guests during
quiet hours and stay in your
room when you visit our
restaurant or
bar. Q Can I exchange foreign currency in the
concierge? A Of course. We will be happy to assist you exchanging major currencies and/or traveller's cheques. Q Is City Hotel located on a
safe part of the town? A All in all, Thessaloniki is a rather
safe city, even though-as in any big city-there are areas of lesser
safety, especially after dark. However, downtown Thessaloniki, where the hotel is located, is considered to be among the
safest parts of the town, so
safety should not really be your concern, at least for the immediate proximity of the hotel. So, whether you're a
businesswoman traveling alone, an elderly couple or traveling with your kids, you will feel very comfortable in the whereabouts of the hotel. Q What are, in general, the working hours in Greece? A It depends. Regular
business office hours are either from 9:00 to 17:00 or from 8:00 to 16:00. Government services are open to the public from 8:00 to 13:00, while
banks are open from 8:00 to 14:00 (13:30 on Fridays). Most commercial stores follow the Mon-Wed-Sat 9:00-14:00, Tue-Thu-Fri 9:00-14:00 17:00-21:00, even though every store is free to make its own store hours. Q Does the hotel offer
parking facilities? A Yes, we have made special arrangement with private
parking garages to accept City Hotel guests at a much-reduced rate than the normal. All these
garages are within walking distance of the hotel. Q How hard is to get the international press? A Since City Hotel is in the middle of the
business district of Thessaloniki, there are numerous international bookstores within walking distance of the hotel, carrying a wide variety of the international press. As a matter of fact, the oldest international bookstore of Thessaloniki is only 50 meters away! Alternatively, you may find lots of major international
newspapers and magazines in many kiosks that sell tobacco and other small items in the neighborhood of City Hotel. Q Is there
room service in the hotel? A Certainly. Our
room service will be happy to serve you anything your heart desires from 07:00 to 01:00 past midnight. Q What AC is used in Thessaloniki? A Throughout Greece you will find 220V, 50 Hz AC electric power. We have also included standard electric razor
outlets (12V) in the
bathrooms of every
room for your convenience.
