If you are a birder and you haven't been to Panama, you don't know what you're missing. Panama boasts 972 bird species, more than the US and Canada combined. Further making Panama a birders dream-come-true is the easy access to most of the bird rich locations. Since Panama has only just begun to promote itself as a tourism destination, birders are few and birds abound.There is a saying that while in some countries you have twenty tourists looking at one bird, in Panama you have one tourist looking at twenty birds. We offer two incredible packages for enjoying Panama's birdwatching. Checkout our itinerary for each package. ATLANTIC PACIFIC BIRDERīS DELIGH (OPTION 1). ATLANTIC PACIFIC BIRDERīS DELIGH (OPTION 2).. ATLANTIC PACIFIC BIRDERīS DELIGHT (OPTION 1). Minimum 2 pax / Maximum 12 pax. Day 1, Upon arrival you will be met and
transferred to the Best Western Las Huacas Hotel
Suites in Panama City, where you will have
dinner and overnight in
double room. (D. Day 2,
Breakfast will be served at the Hotel;s
Restaurant Sabores Panamenos. After
breakfast we will have a
meeting for a briefing of your itinerary and delivery of the Program Info Pack. Depending on the tide, we will depart for a guided shorebird
tour with visit to Old Panama, Colonial Panama and to Miraflores Locks, first set of locks of the Panama Canal on the Pacific Side of the Republic.
Lunch will be served at the Hotel;s
Restaurant and will be accommodated between the shorebird
tour and the visit to the Panama Canal. On your return to your hotel, you will have a Happy Hour with 2
drinks per person and this time will be used to review the days bird sightings.
Dinner will be at the Las Tinajas
Restaurant where you will have the opportunity of learning about Panamanian folklore and national dress, la Pollera. Overnight will be at the Best Western Las Huacas Hotel
Suites. (B.L,D).. __ Day 3 This morning after
breakfast, you will be picked up at your hotel and
transferred to the Metropolitan Nature Park for birding with your naturalist guide. The Metropolitan Nature Park is the only city park in Latin America containing tropical semi-deciduous forest. It has a bird list of more than 200 species. You will return to your hotel for
lunch and check out, since you will then take a mid-afternoon visit to the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute;s Marine Exhibit located in Culebra Point where you will have an opportunity to watch the exhibit of Pacific and Atlantic marine fauna, as well as bird-watching for dry forest and shorebird species. During the late afternoon we will check in at Albrook Inn, located in the Canal area. After checking in, you will have time to review the days bird sightings while enjoying 2
drinks.
Dinner and overnight will be at Albrook Inn. (B,L,D). Day 4, Following
breakfast and early check out, you will be
transferred to Pipeline Road. Once part of the Canal Zone, Pipeline Road is considered to be one of the finest places in the world for birding and nature observation. We will have a picnic
lunch at Summit
Gardens where we will visit the Harpy Eagle Sanctuary. We will spend time bird-watching around Summit Ponds and Old Gamboa Road. In the afternoon, before departing for Cerro Azul where we will have
dinner and overnight at Hostal Casa de Campo Country Inn
Spa. Before
dinner we will enjoy our 2
drinks while we review the days bird sightings. (B,L,D) Specialties we will be looking for: Yellow-eared Toucanet, Crimson-bellied Woodpecker, Slaty-winged Foliage-gleaner, Russet Antshrike, Sirystes, Gray Elaenia, Sulphur-rumped and Tawny-crested Tanagers, various forest raptors, Buff-throated Foliage-gleaner, Brownish Twistwing, Speckled Mourner, Tawny-faced Gnatwren, Agami Heron, Sunbittern, Great Curassow, Dull-mantled Antbird, Broad-billed Sapayoa, Buff-rumped Warbler.. Day 5, After an early
breakfast, to Cerro Jefe Forest Reserve for a morning of bird-watching. You will return to Hostal Casa de Campo to have
lunch. After
lunch you will bird the lodge;s grounds until late afternoon when you will return to the lodge for your Happy Hour with 2
drinks and review of the days bird sightings before
dinner.
Dinner and overnight at Hostal Casa de Campo Country Inn
Spa. (B,L,D).. Day 6, Early morning
breakfast and then depart for birding in Altos de Cerro Azul, area to include several trails such as Calle Maipo and Birders View, where a picnic
lunch will be served. By mid-afternoon we will return to your lodge for check out and
transfer to the Atlantic Side. You will check in at Sierra Llorona Panama Lodge. After check in we will work on our days sightings while enjoying our 2
drinks before
dinner.
Dinner and overnight will be at Sierra Llorona Panama Lodge. After
dinner, you will take an evening hike on one of the lodge;s trails. (B,L,D) Specialties we will be looking for in the Cerro Azul area: Tacarcuna Bush-Tanager, Black-headed Brush-Finch, Violet-headed Hummingbird, Violet-capped Hummingbird, Blue-fronted Parrotlet, White-tipped Sicklebill, White-ruffed Manakin, Slaty-backed Nightingale-Thrush, Striped Woodhaunter, Slaty-winged Foliage-gleaner, Emerald Tanager, Speckled Tanager, Rufous-winged Tanager, Olive Tanager, Sulphur-rumped Tanager, Black and Yellow Tanager.. Day 7, Following
breakfast, you will be
transferred to Achiote Road and Escobal area. You will have a box
lunch on the field. You will also visit adjacent areas to Fort Sherman and Fort San Lorenzo. Late afternoon departure to Sierra Llorona where you will enjoy your happy hour and work on the Bird Check List of the day.
Dinner and lodging will be at Sierra Llorona Panama Lodge. You must leave everything prepared for early departure next day. (B,L,D) Specialties we will be looking for from the Sierra Llorona Panama Lodge birding spots: Red-breasted Blackbird, shore and wading birds, Peregrine Falcons, Merlins, forest-floor and lower-level forest birds such as quail-doves, leaftossers, antpittas, gnatwrens, Savanna Hawk, White-headed and Stripe-breasted Wrens, Montezuma Oropendolas, Gray-cheeked Nunlet, Spot-crowned Barbet, Pied Puffbird, Streaked and Pygmy Antwrens, Sulphur-rumped and Dusky-faced Tanagers.. _ Day 8, After an early
breakfast, we depart from Sierra Llorona Panama Lodge towards Cerro Campana looking for more foothill species. A box
lunch will be served while in Cerro Campana. During the early afternoon we will depart the area towards the beautiful mountain town of El Valle de Anton. Upon arrival in El Valle, you will be
transferred to your bed and
breakfast, Park Eden Bed and
Breakfast Country Retreat. After check in, you will have time to bird-watch around the lodge;s grounds. You will have time for a happy hour and work on your days sightings before
dinner.
Dinner and overnight will be at Park Eden. (B,L,D. Day 9, Enjoy an early morning of birding on the trail that goes along the ridge of Cerro Gaital, which is 3,000 ft. (900m) above sea level. You will return to the lodge for a
garden lunch, weather permitting. After
lunch you depart for bird-watching at different spots of the area, including Chorro E...
