Parties you will never forget. Foresta is in many respects a
party venue. The
restaurant has windows that look out over the water and the town. Millessalen and a number of other venues can be arranged for private
banquets for up to 340 people. We can offer a very special tower
room for intimate
celebrations. A sunset at Foresta will always hold a special place in your heart. Summer is the best time of the year to organise
meetings. We can organise
weddings, anniversary
celebrations, BBQs,
garage parties,
cocktail parties,
party menus or
buffets on or adjacent to our
terraces. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination. Guests wishing to arrive by boat can moor up at our jetty immediately below the hotel. We can even assist in organising
parties onboard a Waxholm boat for a
trip to the most beautiful archipelago in the world.
Modern Nordic Design. Hotel
rooms with carefully prepared design All hotel
rooms at Foresta are an experience in themselves. Pale wood and natural materials were used exclusively in the latest renovation. The result is beautiful Nordic design. The accommodation offers large work areas, harmonious lighting and fully-tiled
shower rooms. All of the
rooms comprise a new
air-conditioning system and all of the
rooms are
non-smoking, some are certified as allergen-free. A great deal of attention has been paid to personal and fire
safety. The hotel
rooms look out over Milles
garden or Vartahamnen. Spacious
suite with
lounge and
sauna A unique opportunity for those that are looking for something a little different to a hotel
room is the
Royal Suite (Kungasviten), featuring a totally new design. There is a
terrace running along its entire glazed outer wall. The
suite contains a
lounge with a three-piece
suite and dining table,
bedroom and
sauna with windows and built-in loudspeakers. A secluded evening on the
terrace after a satisfying
dinner is our recommendation for a private occasion or an important
business visit. We can promise that the service will be first class and comfort unsurpassable. Other
suites will be available if the
Royal Suite is already occupied. The Wilhelmina
Suite (Wilhelminasviten) is located in the castle turret. The
suite can be employed for smaller
business meetings, job interviews and work that requires an undisturbed setting.

skiing, as well as its close proximity to the town via Bergbanan (the Mountain Railway) make Fjall
garden a good starting point for a multitude of different activities and adventures.
The story behind Foresta. Mrs. Wilhelmina Skogh, who was the General Manager of the Grand Hotel, fell in love with the old chivalric castles that bordered the river Rhine during her travels in Germany. Upon her return to Sweden in 1906 she purchased the entirety of Sodermanland, situated in Herserud, where she had a castle constructed according to the German model. She gave the task of putting her designs into practise to the creator of the Grand, the architect Ernst Stenhammar. Everything at Foresta, which was only originally intended to be a private residence, was designed as for a
restaurant establishment, which was run by Mrs. Skogh until 1922. Some important dates. 1922 a limited company was formed with Mr Ivar Berglund as Director. The company took over both the building and the fixtures and fittings and ran the
business until the end of 1925, when the building was purchased by the wholesale dealer Lindstrom. 1929 the restaurateur Rupert Ygberg acquired the
business and during his time at Foresta had the
terrace constructed, which extends along the entire facade. 1931 the building was purchased by the
businessman, film and variety mogul Anders Sandrew, who ran the
restaurant for many years. 1952 Foresta was purchased by the developer Nils Nessen, who instigated extensive renovations. 1957 - Foresta was opened after the renovation work, this time as a first-class hotel and
restaurant. The Beatles and Josephine Baker were some of the celebrities of the time that visited the hotel. 1978 - Foresta underwent a facelift and the old Chivalric Castle then proceeded to act as a modern
conference facility. 1997 the hotel is now part of the international hotel chain Best Western. Foresta underwent a total renovation during 1997 and 1998. The facade has been cleaned and painted and all of the windows have been replaced. All of the hotel
rooms have been renovated and maintain the highest hotel standards.

Hakan tell us about his Foresta. Foresta's dramatic setting is its strength - the combination of the archipelago and its immediate proximity to Stockholm. But what fascinated me most when I delved a little deeper into Foresta was its colourful past. Countless celebrities and personalities have flocked to the hotel through the years. Some of our better known guests include Greta Garbo, Josephine Baker, Eartha Kitt, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Tom Jones and of course many of our local profiles. Foresta has been an important
meeting place since 1910 when Wilhelmina Skogh, the then General Manager at the Grand Hotel, was able to open the doors of her chivalric castle here on the cliff. The creator of the Grand, the architect Ernst Stenhammar, put her drawings into practise. The name Foresta is derived from the Italian and means 'forest', which was Wilhelmina's surname in Swedish. The common thread running through Foresta's history has been the exchange of enriching thoughts and ideas, at
parties or during work. Our congresses and
conferences are now characterised by high-technological standards. I believe that we have succeeded in combining new technology, for example Broadband, with the old atmosphere. I have also endeavoured to retain a typical Nordic design following an extensive renovation. You are very welcome to contribute to Foresta's continued history! Please feel free to me Your opinions direct. Hakan Jarrud, Managing Director
