Dugi otok is the largest island in the north Dalmatian island group and also one of the biggest in Adriatic. It is placed in the outer line of islands and considering its length it is a significant barrier of the whole archipelago and the mainland. In NE passage of Maknare separates it from Molat group of islands, in the SE the passage of Vela Proversa separates it from the Kornati island group, and Iski kanal separates it from the island of Iz. The island is 45 km long and 4,5 km wide near Sali and in the middle part only 1,25 km. It has 114,44 m2 of surface. The highest point is Vela straza ( 338 m) and there are fertile crass fields among picturesque hills. There are olive plantations, vineyards and gardens in the fields, and most of the island is covered with forest and bush. The climate of Dugi otok is Mediterranean with long and warm summers and temperate winters with average temperature between 6,4 C in January and 24,1 C in august. Average insulation is 2700 hours per year and average rain days are only 90. There are only 1800 inhabitants in the island in 11 villages, Sali being the biggest one. There is a new modern road that connects all the villages. The inhabitants are occupied with agriculture and fishery as well as tourism. Dugi otok is the island of peace and quiet, ideal for all those who want to spend a vacation in connection with nature, sea ant its rhythm.
