This is the neatest cabin. We enjoyed our stay here more this year than last year - I didn't think that would be possible! The weather was great! Hate to leave and go home to our 100º+ temperatures. Can't wait to get back out here! J C Winters, Texas (Bearadise). These few days were a wonderful change for us from the 100+ in Abilene, Texas. We loved the cabin - you have decorated it so cute! Loved sitting on the porch and absorbing the cool mountain air. Cool weather and rain made for great sleeping also! We will see you again! L L Abilene, Texas (Bearadise). Bull elk in morning's first light (September). We spotted this young bull elk in velvet in Cedar Creek in June. In the fall the sound of the elk bugle makes it worth the hike. This October hike was rewarded with a bull elk in full sunlight. We spotted this newborn baby elk, also known as a calf, on a June hike. A small herd of cows and calves have spotted their visitors in the August morning light. In the height of mating season the bull elk is very vocal. During the mating season the bull elk bugles and rakes the foliage with his antlers to attract the female. On a late August hike we walked upon this bull who was so surprised to see us he froze in place with grass still in his mouth! A small herd of cow elk and their calves in late August

There is a vast variety of birds in the Ruidoso area and I have yet to capture them all. Keep checking in on this page as I add more photos to my collection. The beautiful acorn woodpecker lives here year round. The sweet little chickadee lives here year round and sings the sweetest song. Our summer hikes to the top of Sierra Blanca almost always are rewarded with a grey jay. A beautiful male turkey in full strut (April). Pine Sisken feasting on purple thistle. I'm going to call this bird a Townsend's warbler because I'm not sure but if you know what it is, feel free to send me an emal! This is the same bird as the one on the left. This Flycatcher has a snack for her babies and is waiting patiently for me to leave so she can feed them. Just moments later the Flycatcher delivers the snack to her 3 hungry babies! This tiny owl was napping on a deck near the Black Forest. Kenny's hand give you an idea how small he was. One of our most colorful birds, the Western Tanager is seen in Ruidoso in the summer months. The common breeding hummer of the Rockies, a female Broadtail. Although we typically start spotting hummingbirds in mid March, a mid-April snow has this male Broadtail wondering why he came to the mountains so early

There are many, many hiking trails in the area, each one unique but every one is rewarding in different ways from wildlife to flowers and spectacular views. On the South Fork of the Bonito trail are grassy meadows, wooded areas and river crossings. The beautiful, open meadows of the South Fork trail are covered with wildflowers in the summer and fall. Green forests, sunflowers and a mountain stream are the ingredients that make a perfect hike. Our summer rains always produce beautiful sunflowers. The Argentina Trail near Bonito Lake offers a spectacular view of Nogal Peak in July. Argentina Trail near Bonito Lake looking at Big Bear Canyon in July. Sierra Blanca is green from our summer rains with a field of wildflowers in the foreground. The hot dogs are always the best part of the hike! Or, maybe the best part of the hike is catching and releasing this rainbow trout!

Most of the deer in this area are Mule Deer distinguished by their very large ears. These fawns are about 1 month old. This fawn with his mother is about 2 weeks old. This fawn is just hours old. In January a buck looks for a mate. In early August the bucks are still in velvet. This mule deer's antlers are covered with velvet which means that his antlers are still growing. We can't promise that a beautiful buck will be waiting outside your cabin when you stay with us, but - - - it definitely happens! The best time of the year to see the new fawns is the month of July. We found this fawn on July 22. The does are very protective of their babies and don't really appreciate visitors

Although the bears in the Ruidoso are are various colors such as cinnamon, black and brown, they are all of the Black Bear species. Yes, it is true, bears like garbage! This bear has a beautiful coat and is an excellent climber! This 2 year old cinnamon bear has found a treasure on someone's deck! Can someone call the fire department, I'm stuck up here! This beautiful cinnamon bear was the highlight of this June hike. This little guy just wishes we would go away so he could come down
