office. A hostel for everyone In 2008, 96 hostels are affiliated with the Danhostel chain, and they are all very different with regard to appearance, furnishings and decor, atmosphere, facilities and location. Some hostels are located in the
centre of town and are an ideal base for museum visits, shopping and enjoying
cafe culture. Others are out in the country or by the sea and are perfect for relaxation, cycling
trips, walks and time together with the family. No matter where you are in Denmark, you are never more than 35 km away from the nearest hostel! Hosts All hostels are run by a host or host couple. The hosts are committed people with an extensive knowledge of the local area and are often more than willing to recommend good outings, etc. Together with the other staff at the hostel, it is the hosts job to ensure that the hostel is a pleasant place to be for everyone. If you have any questions during your stay, you are always welcome to contact the host/hosts or another member of staff. Opening hours at the hostels The staffing of Danhostels hostels varies from place to place hence the differences in the opening hours of the hostels. During the peak season from 1/715/9, the hostel receptions will be open and
telephones answered between 8am and 12 noon and from 4pm-8pm as a minimum, and the rest of the year from 8am10am and 4pm6pm, unless the hostel is closed for holidays, the season, etc. All hostels have an answering machine that advises when the host/reception can be reached again. The receptions at the three city hostels in Copenhagen are open round the clock whenever the hostels are open. At all hostels, once you have been given the key to your
room, you may come and go as you please round the clock. Booking outside opening hours Around 35 of Danhostels hostels currently offer the possibility of booking and paying for
rooms online. This allows you to book your stay at one of the hostels at your leisure even if is late at night and the hostel has long since shut down its
telephone service for the day. The aim is for all Danhostel hostels to offer online booking and payment by the end of 2008. To book online, click 'Go directly to booking' on the home page, or search for the hostel you wish to stay at on the map of Denmark, and then book directly at the hostel from this page. Contact details At you will find the addresses,
telephone numbers, email addresses, etc., of all 96 of our hostels. You can find the details by searching for the hostel you are interested in on the map of Denmark on the home page.

Goals and means A hostel offers good quality overnight accommodation that also meets the needs of guests for unconstrained, cosy social time together, experiences and activities (outdoor life, culture and sport) and, most important of all, a good nights sleep. The modern hostel also provides a setting for
meetings and courses at a reasonable price. The hostels on this website are all members of the Danhostel chain. Behind this chain is an organisation that works tirelessly on the maintenance and development of the hostels. Today, the hostels are either privately or publicly owned either by the local authority or as independent institutions. The number of private hostels is on the increase. The board of the Danhostel chain is responsible for the policies of chain operations and consists of representatives from hostel hosts, hostel owners and hostel users 9 members in total. Originally, DANHOSTEL Danmarks Vandrerhjem was organised as a standard association, but as the hostels have become an ever greater part of Danish tourism, the demand for a professional and commercial operation has increased. The association receives no public funding, but is financed entirely by the chains hostels, via membership fees. Turnover at the hostels is high and, with the exception of hotel guests, there are no tourists with as high a daily consumption as hostel guests. A special area of activity is
conferences and courses that typically take place during the winter months. An increasing number of hostels are now used for
meetings and courses, and this is proving very successful, especially with regard to catering. The Danhostel chain is a voluntary chain and the amount of impact it can have is dependent upon a united approach among the hostels. Accordingly, the main task of the board is product development and marketing, to ensure consistently high quality throughout the chain, without impinging on the individual character of the hostels. The Danhostel hostels are therefore under constant development in accordance with our guests expectations.
