Canterbury Cottage was built in 1900 for Frank Whitmore, the station master for the Maine Central Railroad Ferry Service which operated from Bar Harbor's town pier. It was designed by Fred Savage, an architect who planned many of the larger cottages on the island. This house was one of the three year round homes he designed on Mount Desert Island. The Cottage is located within easy walking distance to the quaint shops and restaurants along the village streets and the busy harbor. The breathtaking beauty of Acadia National Park and all the activities it offers are just a five minute drive from our door. There are too many activities and sites for us to mention even half of them, but here is a list of some of our favorites including shops that we support; »Tree of Life Day Spa. A two day deposit is required on all reservations for two or more nights. Deposits will be refunded if cancellations are made up to twenty-one (21) days before your arrival date. Cancellations within this period may result in your responsibility to pay the entire amount of your scheduled stay unless we are successful in re-booking your room(s). A thirty (30) day cancellation notice is required on all holiday and special weekend stays. Rates are subject to 7% Maine Sales and Accommodations Tax. We accept cash, personal checks, or travelers checks. We also accept Visa, Mastercard and Discover. Regretfully, we cannot accommodate children under 10 years of age.
