Dedicated to the Discovery of Bed Breakfast Getaways. Located in The Eden of New England. As my husband and I are escorted to our cliffside hideaway, we are mesmerized with the spectacular views. The setting and vistas are even more breathtaking than I anticipated. We would soon discover that the Oh my! moments never end at this iconic bed and breakfast inn located in a secluded area on the outskirts of Bar Harbor, Maine. After settling into our cottage and relaxing on our deck for awhile, we saunter down the winding, wooden walkway to explore the private pebble beach below. The rugged, rocky coastline provides a magnificent, shadowy backdrop as the sun sets and sends intricately woven tangerine and violet colored hues swirling through a darkening sky. As we twist our way through a narrow opening in a lone vertical rock, we sense the Edenic grandeur of nature surrounding as well as enveloping us. We feel as aglow as the sky and look forward to a visit we know will be one of our most memorable ones ever. }From its location atop an eighty foot cliff, The Inn at Bay Ledge offers awe-inspiring views beckoning guests to return again and again. The magic of this New England Eden lingers long after the visit ends.~. The original inn structure, built as a preacher's cottage, dates to the late 1800s. Numerous additions have been made to the property, and it has served as a lodging establishment since the mid-1940s. The current owners/innkeepers, Jack Jeani Ochtera, are as delightful and refreshing as their inn. The Inn on Bay Ledge is the Ochteras second BB in the area, and the art of innkeeping is reflected in the personal attention each guest receives and the impressive attention-to-detail found throughout their inn. The day at Inn at Bay Ledge begins with a scrumptious breakfast served in an attractive sunroom overlooking Frenchmans Bay. Fresh breads, muffins, or pastries are baked each morning and served along with the inns signature granola and a hot entree. A bowl of tinted, hard-boiled eggs adds a touch of whimsy to the serving table. Coffee is always ready at 7 a.m. and can be enjoyed while relaxing in a wicker rocker on the sprawling porch. A variety of teas, served with a homemade treat, is served in the afternoons. Slushed lemonade is usually available on warm afternoons, and hot cider is offered on cooler fall days. Not only is each of the guest rooms beautifully decorated with antiques, including treasured family pieces, but each is also enhanced with scenic views of either Frenchmans Bay or the nearby mountains of Arcadia National Park. For individuals preferring additional privacy, three cottage rooms provide woodsy seclusion. Each cottage room has its own private porch and is located in a piney grove across from the inn. All cottage guests have access to the common rooms in the main inn, the pool overlooking the bay, breakfast and afternoon tea. For guests desiring the ultimate accommodations, the new Summer Cottage is the place to stay. Perched atop an eighty foot cliff, this idyllic cottage boasts a private deck, a river rock fireplace, whirlpool tub, and a master suite on the second level. Whether or not we will return to Inn at Bay Ledge for another visit is not a decision to be made. Rather, it is simply a matter of determining how soon we can return. I consider this extraordinary inn to be one where guests can be assured of finding an ideal blend of luxury and rustic living at its finest. Maybe that is why it was the place selected by Henry Hager, the Presidents future son-in-law, to stay with Jenna Bush when he proposed to her last August. Hospitality plus, location setting, gardens, creative attention-to-detail, tasteful decor and furnishings, antiques, individual cottages, historical significance, early coffee / gourmet breakfast / afternoon treats and beverages, impressive amenities, designer linens / down-filled comforters / feather beds, well-lit onsite parking, individual climate control, WiFi, fireplaces / spa tubs / private porches or balconies available, concierge services, special discounts creative packages, background music, swimming pool, private beach, robes, toiletry kits, video DVD library, hammocks, a large wicker-lined porch and tiered decks overlooking Frenchmans Bay.
