THE SANFERMINES These are the patron saint's festival of Pamplona/Iruna, which are celebrated between the 6th and the 14th July. Since Ernest Hemingway fell in love with them and inmortalized them in his book (The Sun Also Rises), Pamplona is always identified with the sanfermines all around the world. Although they have a religious origin, the commemoration of the festival os Saint Fermin, the first bishop in Pamplona, its characteristic element is the encierro which is held everyday at 8 o'clock in the morning. Young people run in front of the bulls starting from the farmyard to the bullring. These are the bulls which will be fought in the same day. The magnetism of the act makes it unforgettable for the runners and the public. Obviously, the Sanfermines are not limited to the encierro: during nine days the objective is to have fun, either following the program of the festival or enjoying the party the way you know and understand it. Above all, the party in the street, entertained by music bands, fanfares and the groups of young people, who dance whithout stop bringing their banners. Detail of the bullrunning
