STC Jokkmokk hostel is situated in the middle of Jokkmokk. Just a cross the street of Jokkmokk tourist information. The house is built in the 1920s for Domanverket. The main building contains reception, 8 guest rooms with 27 beds, self catering kitchen, showers, a sauna, Tv and vcr, Internet connection, coin-operated telephone, washing possibilities, and we serve breakfast during summer. In the smaller building there are 6 rooms with 20 beds, self catering kitchen, TV, showers and toilets. On our big yard there is a lot of space for all kind of activities. We have parking space, barbecue, and outdoor furniture for warm lazy days in the sun. During your stay in our hostel you have to show respect against the other guests, living on a hostel means that you cook your own dinner, wash your own dishes, wipe off the table after you have used it and keep the facilities clean and nice for all the other guests to enjoy. In the kitchen you will find a stove, microwave oven, coffee brewer, water boiler, refrigerator and a freezer. In the kitchen there is also green garbage containers, in this you are supposed to sort your garbage in different fractions. Under the zink you will find a container for disposed garbage. On the front yard there are 2 kinds of garbage containers, plastic for disposed garbage and wooden containers for sorted garbage. In the basement of the main building we have a sauna that you can rent in the evening. We charge you 20 SEK/hour/person. You reserve and pay it in the reception. Breakfast is served during high season every day, unless there are no reservations for it. It contains a cold buffe' of fil, musli, cornflakes, jam and apple-sauce. Soft and hard bread with butter, sausage, cheese and marmalade. Juice, coffee, the and chocolate. You reserve and pay for it in the reception on arrival or before the reception closes in the evening. In the reception you will also find some products that we sell. You can buy fishing cards if you like to fish in the rivers, souvenirs, books, stamps and other products. You can borrow games like yatzy and Chinese checkers. We also have a internet connection that you can use during the reception opening hours.

What to do in Jokkmokk! Jokkmokk town district is the second largest district in Sweden, with an area of 19,474 km2 it takes some time to view it. And there are always something to do in every part of the district. That's why it can be difficult to decide what to do when you visit Jokkmokk. At least we try to give you some tip on what to see and do in Jokkmokk and in other parts of the district. If you arrive by car you wont have any problems to move around. And if you arrive by train you can always rent a car in Jokkmokk at Rental line, or you might want to travel by bus. You can also rent a bike from us or from the Tourist information. Jokkmokk hostel is situated in central Jokkmokk in a big thickly wooded garden, next neighbor is the vicarage and across the street you will find the Tourist information wich used to be a hotel called Engelmark. Almost every thing you will find is on a walking distance from the hostel. If you want to plan ahead why not visit just to see what Jokkmokk looks like. You can get more tip and advice from the Tourist information site. Ajtte the Swedish mountain and same museum is a great place to find out more about the life of the same people and how they lived in northern Sweden. There are also movies, and all kinds of exhibitions on Ajtte, you might even buy a book or two, music and handcraft can also be of interest for you. During lunch time they have the restaurant open so you should try some of the local food. Ajtte is open all year around.

Would you like to visit the winterfair in Jokkmokk 2008? In Sweden today there are about 300 hostels connected to the Swedish touring club. You can find them in trains, in lighthouses, on ships, apartment houses and in other unusual houses. Or like our house an old forest officers house. Asgard was built in the 1920s as a forest officers house for Domanverket and worked like that til 1970s. After that different families have lived in the house before it became an office for Lanstyrelsens Fjallforvaltning, and in 1993 became a hostel. Under din vistelse vill vi att du visar hansyn mot ovriga gaster. Att bo pa vandrarhem innebar att du som gast sjalv lagar din mat, diskar efter dig, torkar av bordet efter dig och haller snyggt och trevligt sa att alla trivs och kan nyttja vara gemensamhetsutrymmen. I koken finns spisar med ugnar, microugnar, kaffebryggare, vattenkokare samt kyl och frys. I koken finns ocksa grona sopkarl. Dar vill vi att du lagger sorterade sopor. For brannbara sopor finns hink under diskbanken. Pa garden finns 2 sorters soptunnor, plastkarl for brannbart och markta tratunnor for sorterade sopor. I kallaren i Huvudbyggnaden finns en bastu. Den kan du hyra kvallstid och den kostar 20:- per person per timme. Bokas och betalas i receptionen. Frukost serveras under sommarens hogsasong varje dag, under forutsattning att vi far nagra bokningar till den. Det ar en kall buffefrukost med fil, musli, flingor, sylt och appelmos. Mjukt och hart brod med smor, korv, ost, marmelad och messmor. Juice, kaffe, the och choklad. Bokas och betalas vid ankomst, eller innan receptionen stanger pa kvallen. I receptionen har vi aven en del varor till forsaljning. Vi saljer fiskekort at Jokkmokks jakt och fiske. Vi saljer souvenirer, kepsar, t-shirts, bocker, vykort och frimarken samt lite annat smatt och gott. Har kan du ocksa lana utomhus-spel eller olika inomhusspel som fia, yatzy och kinaschack. Har har vi ocksa internetuppkoppling som vara gaster kan nyttja nar receptionen ar oppen. Vi har tyvarr inte mojlighet att ta emot gaster med husdjur. Da hanvisar vi till annat boende i Jokkmokk. Vid avresa ska du som gast stada ditt rum. Du ruskar tacket utomhus, viker ihop det snyggt och lagger det i fotandan pa sangen. Du torkar av bord och fonsterbrada. Och du dammsuger och vattorkar golvet. Om du inte vill stada ditt rum kan vi gora det at dig. Helst bokar du stad vid ankomst och betalar for det da. Annars lamnar du pengar pa rummet, 50:-. Utcheckning sker senast 10.00 fran anlaggningen. Inte bara fran rummet. Nyckeln lamnas i postladan pa insidan vid ytterdorren. Vill du lamna bagage over dagen gar det bra. Vi tar betalt per kolli. Kom dock ihag att du bara kan hamta ditt bagage pa kvallen da vi har oppet i receptionen.

Jokkmokk Winter Fair! In the year of 1605 the Swedish king Karl IX decided that marketplaces should be made in northern of Sweden. During this period of time Jokkmokk as a town didn't exist, but they decided that marketplace for Lule Lappmark should be established here. In the year 1606 they held their first fair here. On the fairs they also used to baptize, perform marriage ceremony's and even held trials because people already were gathered. They used to hold the fair around 25 of January and it went on for 2 - 3 weeks, but that later changed and became shorter so during 1930s it only went on for 2 days. In 1955 on the 350 years jubilee of the fair, they decided to make it more tourist friendly so it became 3 days long, the fair booths grow from 20 to 150. The first reindeer rajd ran through Jokkmokk and they also had barn dance. Nowadays the market is always the first Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in February. In 2005 that will be from the 3 til the 6th of February. Today the fair is so much moreIts all the fair booths, exhibitions and sales in schools, shops and other small stores. Its winter activities with sled dogs, moose safari, and reindeer rajd. Its jojk concerts, folks and world music, cock-and-bull stories, the cold, snow and the dark, not to forget the northern light. Its picture views, art exhibitions, evenings with dance and good food. Its a weekend when people come back to Jokkmokk they who used to live here but have moved to other cities. And its a weekend when 35.000 people are visiting us. Jokkmokk town district is Sweden's second largest district area, its as big as Skane, Blekinge and Halland together. And on this enormous area we are only just below 6000 people who live and work here. Most of them about 3000 lives in Jokkmokk. In Jokkmokk you can find two hotels, one youth hostel and two holiday villages for tourists to live on. Then add some private rooms to rent and you will understand that not every one who wants to come here can have a room to stay in during the winter fair. On our hostel we have 47- beds in 14 rooms, and every year there are 10 - 20 times more people asking for a room to rent. To rent a room to each and everyone of them is impossible.
