Families with teenagers. An amazing honeymoon. Loved this place!. Columbus, Ohio Feb 24, 2007. My experience with this property took place in: Would I recommend this hotel to my best friend? Absolutely! My ratings for this hotel are: Check in / front
desk. I recommend this hotel for: A romantic getaway, Girlfriend getaway, Older travelers, Families with young children, Families with teenagers, Tourists. I selected this hotel because... Beach / Sun, Other. Traveling group: Spouse / significant other. We wanted a moderately priced hotel for one night upon our arrival in St. Maarten as we planned to go to Saba early the next day. The Turquoise Shell Inn exceeded all of our expectations. The owners (I presume) Carter and Marcus were wonderful to us and made us feel so at home! The property is quaint, clean, and an excellent location on Simpson Bay. If you walk out the back of the hotel, you are steps from a nice beach with a wonderful view of Saba and some very cool mega yachts in the bay. The hotel sits far enough off the main street in front to be very
quiet, but walk out on the street and it is very happening and lots of fun. The marina area directly across from The Turquoise Shell was fantastic, with some cool
bars to hang out amidst more mega yachts, not to mention plenty of good
restaurants. The
rooms at the Turquoise Shell were
one bedroom apartments, and we were able to go to the market and bring back
breakfast for the morning. The beds, AC, water pressure,
TV channel selection were all great, not to mention the
internet access worked wonderfully and the
pool was really nice too! As planned, we went on to Saba and had a great time, then had planned to stay in the Marigot (St. Martin) area for a couple days before heading to Anguilla. We checked into a hotel in Marigot and I felt overwhelming disappointment. I did not like this area at all! (Though I did like Orient Beach and Grand Case on the French side)) We longed to get back to The Turquoise Shell. We got the heck out of that place in Marigot, and headed back to the Turquoise Shell Inn hoping for a vacancy. Technically, there was no vacancy as housekeeping is off on Sundays, but Carter said he would have a
room for us later in the day and he prepared it himself.. That was amazing service and we appreciated it so much! We toured the entire island and got back later in the day feeling so lucky that we were back at the Turquoise Shell. We enjoyed watching the boats/yachts come in at the drawbridge around 5:00 which is just minutes from the hotel. We, like so many others on Tripadvisor, loved Maho and watching the planes land and take off. It was really exciting and the entire Maho area was so much fun! The Turquoise Shell is just a short drive to that area of the island. All in all, the whole St. Maarten/St. Martin/Saba/Anguilla
trip was fantastic. I will definitely stay at The Turquoise Shell Inn again, and would recommend it to anyone! Great value! Apr 18, 2006. I traveled to this hotel with: spouse/partner. I recommend this hotel for: Young singles, An amazing honeymoon, Families with teenagers, Tourists. My visit was for: extended vacation. Would I stay at this location again: absolutely! My wife and I were looking for a low to moderately priced place in a good location. We didn't expect a fancy resort, but this place exceeded our expectations. The location is superb. It's just literally a few steps from beautiful private Simpson Bay beach. It's only a very short walk to everything you need, including good
restaurants, and only a short drive from the
airport and good shopping. Our
room was very clean, and was larger than we expected, with a full
kitchenette. Most of all, the owner was very friendly and attentive to our needs, much like you would get at a very high priced B B. Don't expect beautifully clean properties surrounding the inn...there apparently are very few zoning laws, as there are some trashy spots close by. But the inn property itself is well kept and charming. And just across the street from the inn is a beautiful marina housing multi-million dollar yachts. We would love staying here again. We went to St. Maarten to get married, we stayed at Maho 4 nights and moved to T. Shell for the remainder of our stay to get away from the
business of the Maho area (which is still great) Our honeymoon time at T.Shell was very nice. SO clean and conveniently located for walking. Walking a few days is a must so see everything and all the little
bars and hidden treasures!! But a car at night is a must for it gets a little scary walking to far, locals don't recommend it. But the owners of T. Shell are great, the
rooms are great, cute little
pool, CLEAN-CLEAN-CLEAN. Simpson Bay beach is right behind the hotel,
quiet and few people, calm for swimming. Free
parking at the Shell Inn is also a plus. Would go back tomorrow if we could!!! Found a Gem Feb 6, 2006. The Turquoise Shell Inn is a sweet 12 unit Inn with
pool, positioned between the Bay and the Lagoon at Simpson Bay. We had a
2 room unit with a complete
kitchen. The best thing about the Inn is the charming staff who took care of our every need. This isn't a fancy upscale site, the plumbing has it's problems and there is no central air but the fans worked well and our
room was clean and well appointed. If we get back to that area, I would definitely stay their again. This review is the subjective opinion of a TripAdvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. Home away from home Jan 3, 2006. I recommend this hotel for: Young singles, An amazing honeymoon, Older travelers, Tourists. My visit was for: out-of-town getaway. The Turquoise Shell is a cozy inn with superb service. We stayed for a long weekend over New Years and were very happy with the accommodations. We were traveling on a budget, and found the location perfect for walking to a number of excellent
restaurants (El Rancho especially) or getting
taxi or bus rides to
shop in Phillipsburg and explore the French side. The hotel offers day access to the tranquil Simpson Bay beach. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The Turquoise Shell is definitely recommended for long weekends or week-long stays. The
kitchenette is fully equipped, the
rooms are very clean, and it's a great place to rest and rejuvenate after all the fun of this island. Big Bang For Little Bucks! Nov 2, 2005. Seat Pleasant, Maryland. I traveled to this hotel with: friends. I recommend this hotel for: Young singles. My visit was for: out-of-town getaway, extended vacation. Would I stay at this location again: most likely. Just returned from a delightful stay at the Turquoise Shell Inn on Simpson Bay in St. Maarten. The accommodations while small were very clean and had all the modern conveniences. What makes this place so special and made our stay so memorable were are all the little unexpected touches performed by proprietors. You won't go wrong if you spend your stay in St. Maarten here. Sint Maarten The Friendly Island. Author: Dresden Klaus. I spent 4 weeks at Sint Maarten / Saint Martin from 11-28-2004 to 12-26-2004. It was my first
trip to the Caribbean and to that island. I stayed at the Turquoise Shell Inn Hotel
http://www.tshellinn.com and liked it very much. Carter and Mark the owners been very friendly and the hotel is nice and clean, located close to the main boulevard, on the other side the ocean, a good place to stay. This island is a great place for a vacation and I hope to return some day! M. Daly - UK - 15 February, 2005. Just to say thanks for a wonderful stay at your place.
