The Waterfront Deck is located on the eastern side of the Inn adjacent to and overlooking the Delaware River and Pea Patch Island. Many believe that the view from the deck is the best waterfront deck view in Delaware, most certainly in this area. The views combined with the commercial and leisure river traffic make for a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The deck hosts a variety of events including, graduation
parties,
wedding receptions,
business parties, special events and much more. The Deck can accommodate 125 for meals and up to 200 for receptions. The Riverfront Gazebo Parkland. The Riverfront Gazebo, located in the park just across the street from the Inn is surrounded by parkland and water. This charming location is often the site of
weddings in conjunction with receptions at the Inn. The Gazebo itself can easily accommodate a
wedding party. The surrounding area can accommodate hundreds. Reservation of the Gazebo and surrounding area is available through the Inn. Adjunctive Off Site Facilities. The Olde Canal Inn has
banquet and
meeting facilities on site to accommodate up to approximately 125. Since this is a historic Inn each individual
meeting room accommodates up to 50 for meals and more for lectures and
meetings. The Newbold
Room, located on the first floor of the Inn is divided into
two rooms by dividing doors. The larger of the
two rooms can accommodate 40 for meals in either a boardroom style or individual table arrangements. This section can accommodate about 50 for lectures or
seminars. The smaller of the
two rooms can accommodate 12 to 15 for either meals or
meetings. When the doors are opened the
two rooms together can accommodate approximately 50. The Reybold
Room, located in the
center of the Inn on the first floor is most often used as the main
dining room but is often used for
banquets,
weddings and
meetings. This
room has the atmosphere that reminds one of the elegant history of the Inn. Since it is immediately adjacent to the Newbold
Room on one side and the Front Porch
room on the other, it is often combined with these
rooms to accommodate
parties of up to 125. The Reybold
Room by itself accommodates 50 for meals and 60 to 70 for
seminars,
meetings and lectures. Additionally it can be divided into halves each having one-half the capacity of the total
room or each half may be combined with the Newbold
Room on one side or the Front Porch on the other to provide the desired size and atmosphere. To determine the capacity of each segment see the

Penthouse Suite is located on the fourth floor of the Inn. It is renowned in this area for the breathtaking, panoramic views from its large picture windows. While The Penthouse is actually a
four bedroom accommodation, complete with
kitchen, it is available for
banquets,
parties and
meetings. The enormous great
room of the
suite makes it ideal for many different types of gatherings. It is a favorite
meeting place whenever
business meetings and retreats come to the Inn. It can accommodate 40 for meals and 50 for
meetings. The Delafort is a passenger vessel that docks just across the street from the Olde Canal Inn. Receptions,
parties and events of all sorts take place on the Delafort.
Dinner parties, dances and the like at the Inn have been combined with a cruise on this vessel. The Inn also caters all sorts of events on the boat. The Delafort accommodates up to 88 passengers at a time. It can be booked through the Inn. The Grassdale
Center. The Grassdale
Center is a nature
center located in a state park about one mile from the Inn.
Meeting facilities at the
center accommodate over 125 in one large and pleasant
meeting area.
Meetings at the
center are of catered by the Inn or combined with breakout sessions and meals at the Inn. The Grassdale

Delaware City Vicinity. Fort Delaware Fort Delaware State Park. Fort Delaware, located on Pea Patch Island in the middle of the Delaware River, is a Union fortress dating back to 1859. This fort was originally built to protect the ports of Philadelphia and Wilmington. It's most noted use was as a prison for Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. Today it is a State park open to the public. The fort has undergone a 20 million dollar restoration and is staffed by historians and history students who dress and act in the era of the Civil War. Living history exhibitions and
tours are given daily. Reenactments with participation reenactors from regional historical groups take place on many week-ends during the summer season. Ghost
tours are offered on select evenings during the spring, summer and fall. These
tours include enactments and story telling by a famous area story teller. You are invited to
tour the fort and explore the ramparts, soldiers' quarters, parade grounds, gun emplacements and much more. Fort Delaware on Pea Patch Island can be seen from most
rooms at the Olde Canal Inn. Pea Patch Island is more than a historical fort. It is also offers many natural treasures. It is the home of many different species of herons, egrets and ibis. It is the largest Atlantic Coast nesting ground north of Florida for wading birds. Pea Patch Island is reached by ferry that departs from a dock on the waterfront in Delaware City across the street from the Olde Canal Inn. The ferry also traverses the river and dock at Fort Mott on the New Jersey side. Fort Dupont Fort Dupont State Park. Named for Rear Admiral Samuel Francis du Pont, this fort was actively used as a military base from the Civil War through World War II. It was used as an active fort and training facility for all or these wars. During WW II it was used to house prisoners from Rommel's Africa Corps. The brick and frame buildings of the fort remain to this day as does the parade ground, soldiers quarters, a
movie theatre, library, gymnasium and storage buildings. While the buildings are presently not open to the public, the grounds are open and can easily be toured on foot or by car. Fort Dupont State Park also contains 322 acres of natural
beauty and wildlife. There are also recreational opportunities that include picnicking, fishing, hiking,
tennis and
basketball. The park also has a nature and educational
center with exhibits and
meeting facilities.
Meetings at this facility can be catered locally from the
kitchens of the Olde Canal Inn. Fort Dupont and Fort Dupont State Park are within walking distance of Delaware City. Fort Mott Fort Mott State Park. Fort Mott is the third fort in a three fort system built in the mid 1800's for the purpose of protecting Philadelphia and Wilmington from naval invasion. Fort Delaware and Fort Dupont are the other two forts in the system. Fort Mott is located on the eastern
bank of the Delaware River in New jersey, across from Delaware City, Fort Delaware and Fort Dupont. Today the ramparts and embankments of the fort are open to the public. Surrounding the fort is a state park that is open to the public. Fort Mott can be reached by taking the ferry that goes to Fort Delaware. Delaware City Historical District. The historical district of Delaware City is one of the largest in the State of Delaware with more that 250 contributing buildings. A self guided walking
tour is available. The

tour includes a map, and descriptions of the historic properties as well as pictures and sketches. The guide is available without charge at the Olde Canal Inn and at City Hall. Currently the only accommodations in the historical district are the
guest rooms and
suites at the Olde Canal Inn. Port Penn Port Penn Interpretive
Center. Port Penn Interpretive
Center is located in the quaint Village of Port Penn just four miles south of Delaware City. The
center offers displays and programs explaining the folklife of the unique and historic wetland and historic communities found along the shores of the Delaware River. Self-guided walking
